4.0 out of 5 stars Kodak EasyShare M1020 is an amazing piece of equipment!
Straight out of the box, this frame gave remarkable results. Inserted an SD card, turned it on, and presto, my photos never looked better. The touch frame is extremely easy to use, and very intuitive! Never looked at the manual, which turns out to be a good thing, since it leaves a lot to be desired. Checked it to see what "Shuffle" on or off did (never did find out)...

3.0 out of 5 stars Looks great but has a flaw, June 7, 2008
This review is from: Kodak Easyshare M1020 10-Inch Digital Frame (Electronics)
The quality of the pictures was terrific. This frame is also very easy to use. I do agree with another reviewer that the user guide leaves much to be desired. I ended up returning my frame because of one issue that is a big deal to me. I absolutely have to have a frame that can show pictures in a random order. This frame claims that when shuffle is on that is what it is suppose to do but it does not work. I tried more then just my frame(even called and emailed kodak) and the pictures are shown the exact same way every time. I have too many pictures to have to sit through all the same ones every time to get to different ones. I believe they could fix this frame with a firmware update and I will keep an eye out because I would like to get this frame if they it.

Checked it to see what "Shuffle" on or off did (never did find out) and how to get random picture display, which it apparently doesn't do - thus 4 stars. But for bright, sharp pictures with a wide viewing angle, it beats any thing else I've looked at. Going to purchase an EasyShare M820 for the kitchen, and two more EasyShare M1020's for my daughter and sister-in law!
Added note: From Kodak web site - "Shuffle" plays pictures in random order!!! Changing rating to 5 stars

5.0 out of 5 stars BEST Digital Picture Frame. And I own 4 Different Ones, July 5, 2008
This review is from: Kodak Easyshare M1020 10-Inch Digital Frame (Electronics)
I really like having my pictures displayed on a digital picture frame. It is a convenient, space saving way to review thousands of pictures. Great entertainment in a small space. I brought one in to my elderly aunt to watch in her nursing home. She really enjoys watching the family photos, with hundreds of pictures cycling throughout the day. Sure beats TV! This is a great application for these picture frames.

But anyways, I now own 4 different model/different manufacturer Digital picture frames. This Kodak 10" model is my most recent purchase and the best picture frame that I own to date.

What is wrong with the other picture frames? Some picture frames, the real cheap ones, seem to suffer from low CPU power. It can cause a long 'blank screen delay between flipping to the next picture. This Kodak is quick, it will flip to the next picture as fast as you want.

The picture is large, brilliant, colorful and relatively high res. The specs say 800 x 480 but it really looks much higher than that. It scales pictures to fit the frame nicely. And the viewing angle is terrific, pictures are brilliant and visible even when viewing the frame from way off to the side.

The touch screen is great since it is on the front is very accessible unlike other frames that hide controls in the back. And I like that the touch controls are subtle, not noticeable, which would detract from the overall look of the picture frame.

One reviewer didn't like the frame's built in menus, but they are not difficult by any stretch. And really, how often do you use them? For me, not often. I set it the way I want with the desired transition & display mode. Then it's just set it and forget it. I use Compact Flash for the pictures. Holds a ton of pictures on one inexpensive chip. I keep a few CF chips around loaded up with different pictures.

Get this Kodak picture frame. You won't regret it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great improvement over prior model, May 12, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Kodak Easyshare M1020 10-Inch Digital Frame (Electronics)
Great looking pictures, very smooth and from any reasonable distance (i.e., at least couple feet away) looks like a real photo. tricked a few folks in my office (about 1/2), who all thought it was a real photo on display. Light years ahead of the quality of the prior kodak 10inch model (which had comparably worse ability to display blacks and contrast from darks to lights). highly recommend. intuitive interface.

2.0 out of 5 stars Clunky interface, shuffle feature not working, more..., December 21, 2008
By
This review is from: Kodak Easyshare M1020 10-Inch Digital Frame (Electronics)
So using amazons ratings as a good starting point for purchasing this frame i picked it up. I soon realized once open that the internal 128MB was worthless. I purchased (2) 4GB USB sticks to make compatibility as easy as possible for this was a gift for my 65 year old mother. I found the TOUCH interface clunky. I dread having to explain how this functions to my Mother after she receives it on the holiday. The interface is particularly unuser friendly wanting to default to the limited 128MB internal memory each time its started instead of defaulting to the USB card i have left inserted. For those of you who like TOUCH interfaces, this is no IPHONE or IPOD. The SHUFFLE feature does not work - this randomization of photos is most likely the #1 feature you could want on a device like this. Kodaks website - the software updates do not have release dates which makes if much more difficult to know if you are going to benefit from a particular download, especially for the non tech type persons out there. When wondering how to change the duration for each photo that was displayed for more then 5 seconds (default) the printed manual referred me to the "extended manual" located on kodaks website. The 1/4" non-extended kodak manual became worthless pretty fast though in typical Kodak fashion it was in seven languages. It's going to take some time to see how my retirement age parents are able to enjoy it. Another huge Kodak marketing misrepresentation. On the cover and the back they show two different people holding the frame as if it is cordless. With the impression that it can be easily passed around from person to person in a room. With the 6' cord tethering you to the frame this will be much more difficult then imagined while purchasing. No option for the frame to even run on a battery source. I've waited a few years for the prices to come down on these digital frames. It seems the software is still at 1.0 though, with the SHUFFLE feature the one thing that disappoints me the most. Every time the frame is started you have to start in order and you do get tired of having to see the same photos each time the frame is started. The color, brightness and contrast are very nice and the mat looks real enough and is apparently swappable. Also the Kodak chat feature for tech support was not open to answer my questions even though the site advertises 24/7 7 day a week chat support. Its an amazing technology that needs a few tweaks yet. Buyer beware. I'm having to give it 2 stars counter 3.5 it's currently averaging, though it could be 4 quickly with better software and more accurate marketing by Kodak.

1.0 out of 5 stars Great picture but..., September 19, 2008
By
This review is from: Kodak Easyshare M1020 10-Inch Digital Frame (Electronics)
For the month it actually worked, I liked it even though it has some "minor" flaws. The interface is a bit quirky, and as others suggested, the random functions (both picture order and transitions) were anything but dependable.

Its best attribute was the display. Unfortunately, that asset stopped working and it's now indefinitely stuck in torch mode (each pixel is at max brightness).

Oh well, it was nice for its short life span and I would have rated it higher if I spent $10.00 for it. But since this unit is $200.00, I'll give it the single brightly lit star that it is.

1.0 out of 5 stars not worth the box it's in, November 1, 2008
This review is from: Kodak Easyshare M1020 10-Inch Digital Frame (Electronics)
I purchased this frame from Best Buy because I got a steal of a deal on it. I am returning it today after having given it a week. This frame is not good for anyone with any technical knowledge; you will find yourself very frustrated with this frame!

Pro
*The picture quality is excellent
*The speaker is clear and loud
*Several different media slots
*Computer connectivity

Con
*Shuffle will not work, even after firmware update. I would call the mode "Slightly Shuffled" rather than "shuffle"
*Just because a picture could be read by the frame last night doesn't mean it will be today.
*No sort by folders, root pictures only. Kodak recommends installing their software and creating presentations
*Corrupt memory cards. Pictures cannot be deleted from an SD card in WinXP after the card has been tainted by the frame. This is regardless of if the card is in 'lock' mode or not. Memory card must be reformatted in WinXP before you can change the pictures
*Seems to have an arbitrary size and dimension requirement on pictures that I could not find documented
*The touch border control is innovative. Too bad it doesn't work very well. You can scroll through pictures only one direction.
Pan and zoom transition will ignore what ever 'time to display picture' setting you have selected

Do not want!

2.0 out of 5 stars Frustrated, June 10, 2008

The touch screen was difficult to use. It kept freezing up on me and I'd have to turn it off and on again. Other times, I'd press the border in order to select a certain touch screen option and the option next to it would be selected instead. And it's not like I have long fingernails or Parkinson's. I am a healthy young man who knows how to use a touch screen. Very frustrating. The frame is nice, well constructed and the pictures were digital great quality. Overall, this does not make up for a frame that is frustrating to use.

5.0 out of 5 stars great frame, November 11, 2008
This review is from: Kodak Easyshare M1020 10-Inch Digital Frame (Electronics)
Ordered for myself after giving Kodak frames as gifts last Christmas. This new model is easier to use and has more features than last year's (timer, removable mat border, graphics). Kodak has the best quality picture too. Arrived quickly and set-up was a breeze.

I purchased this product as a Christmas gift for my son in the Navy, and I received it on a timely basis, in perfect condition. I loaded 1gb worth of pictures and music onto a memory card and popped it into the frame so that as soon as it was turned on, it would begin playing the slideshow of pictures, in date order, against a background of music of my choosing, perfect! I can now configure new memory cards with additional slideshows and music in the future, and just send that to my son so he can plug it in and see the new pictures!
