4.0 out of 5 stars Best Bang for your $$Buck$$
I was shopping for several weeks to find a camera that was in my price range, and had all the features I needed. The Kodak Advantix F600 is the one! This handsome camera takes beautiful classic, horizontal, and panoramic shots. If your looking for an excellent camera at a reasonable price, order your Kodak Advantix F600 right now!

1.0 out of 5 stars I had to return this camera
I really did my homework before buying a camera. I picked this one because it had great features at a great price, but I was very disappointed. The very first roll of film I used got "stuck" in the middle. The LCD display was flashing everything at once and I was unable to snap pictures, rewind, or anything. A few days later, the camera suddenly worked...

Usually, I use disposable camera's. Then I saw this thing and grabbed one. I love it.

It has two cool features. Panoramic format and self timer.

The panoramic pictures look great. If your camera won't take them, then you are missing out. Take a few panoramic pictures and you will be hooked. It is so nice to be able to include tons of stuff in a picture. Sitting at a dinner table, it was easy to get both sides of the table--amazing. Landscapes are obvious, but is it is good for so much more. I think you will find yourself using this feature more times than not.

The self timer is very nice and a handy feature that cheaper cameras don't have. I have to have a self timer. It is essential for those situations where you want to get everyone in the picture.

I also like the film format. Drop it in and it takes care of itself. There is a tripod mount on the bottom for more position control.

Very easy to use, great pictures, cheap price. Try it you will like it.

I really did my homework before buying a camera. I picked this one because it had great features at a great price, but I was very disappointed. The very first roll of film I used got "stuck" in the middle. The LCD display was flashing everything at once and I was unable to snap pictures, rewind, or anything. A few days later, the camera suddenly worked again. I loaded some more film and I accidentally hit the rewind button after only a few pictures. This seemed to happen a lot, maybe because the rewind button was in a location where it could easily be hit accidentally. I did this twice, and it happened another time when I handed the camera over to someone else to ask them to snap a picture. I guess it was just the location of the rewind button. The battery died after I had taken only about 35 photo, total. When the battery died, I was unable to even remove the film until I got a new battery. Then, when the battery was new, the camera would not let me just continue on with the same roll of film, it re-wound the film, so once again I had paid for film and only used a few shots. When I had the pictures developed, they were a nice quality, so I would have loved to work out my problems with this camera. Also, the zoom was quite powerful, especially for the price of the camera. I returned it and purchased a Minolta Vectis. I looked at the Vectis originally but was hoping to save some money by purchasing the Kodak. The Vectis has a less powerful zoom even though it costs more money, but so far it seems to be a good choice and it does have a lot of great features. Thanks to Amazon for making the return and the new purchase very easy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice Camera for amateurs, July 24, 2001

My only experience in photography is using the disposable cameras and a cheap Casio digital camera. I bought this one because I was interested in some of the technological features. The time/date stamp appears on the BACK of the resultant image instead of obtrusivly on the FRONT. It loads itself and is easy to use. The zoom is nice too, with 4 zoom settings. Also, I've never been interested in panoramic shots, but I got some great pictures of the grand canyon using that feature last month.

The only problem I had with it was the flash crapped out during a family get-together. It was a little embarrasing, especially since it produced a loud "bang" noise when it happened. I have since had that issue resolved.

However, the feature I'm most interested in is not the camera, but the possiblity of uploading the images to my computer using the FD300 device Kodak produces. This camera provides great looking pictures on a tactile medium, and also provides a means to upload digital images to my home computer. Once the film cartridge is processed I can use it to put those pictures on my computer. I have yet to try the FD300, but I'm anxious to use one.

5.0 out of 5 stars First and best camera I ever owned!, October 18, 2000

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Kodak F600 Advantix Zoom APS Camera (Electronics)
I originnally got this camera here at Amazon for my vacation to Las Vegas because, A) I figured it would be un-tourist like of me not to be shooting everything I saw, and B) it seamed to be a good excuse to finally get a camera that wasn't made of cardboard. Well I'm here to tell ya that 90% of my pictures came out great! And considering I've never operated a real camera before and didn't read the instruction manual till three hours before my first flight, I think that's pretty damn good! Only about half of my friends' pictures came came out OK with their cheesy cameras, and they have times more experience with photography than I. Next time I fully expect to get every picture in crystal clear clarity (after I scim the manual again) because this camera is just that good and easy to use. If you want a camera that doesn't require a PhD in engineering to use and gets spectacular results, this is the one for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for its market, November 16, 2001

This is a fine camera for quick, informal photos. If I wanted art, I'd use an expensive SLR, but I'm very happy with the pictures I've taken in the last few months at parties and festivals--circumstances in which I want to be able to take some quick shots to remember the moment. The several levels of zoom and the standard and wide format photos sizes are nice. ("Panoramic" is merely the wide format picture, enlarged and cropped at the time of film processing, which exacerbates the low resolution of APS film). I definitely prefer this camera to disposables.

My complaints: you cannot remove a roll of film and reinstall it later as you apparently can with other APS cameras; the red-eye effect in my last roll is rather noticeable; and the delay between pressing the button and the picture actually being taken makes it difficult to capture anything in motion.

Addendum: I think the red-eye effect is noticeable in many of my recent pictures because of the way the camera starts in a default setting when turned on: the default setting does not include the red-eye reduction feature.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Camera on Earth!!!, March 6, 2001
This review is from: Kodak F600 Advantix Zoom APS Camera (Electronics)
I've been using this camera for a few weeks now and I have had absolutely no problems with it. The focus range is great and even though it has the auto-focus feature, you can bypass that. Also, I have has no problems with the manual rewind feature at all. I have never hit it by accident, actually, I tried to hit it once and couldn't do it without using a pen or pencil to push it in. It is a great camera with no defects or anything, all of my pictures have turned out great and the right size. However, it only works this good if you read the instruction manual from cover to cover, otherwise you might think there is something wrong with the camera and try to return this great piece of technology. Go out, get one, and take many great pictures!!

I've had this camera for over two years now, and I have never been displeased with any of the photos I've shot (except for my own composition errors, of course). Friends and family have really enjoyed the quality and detail of the photos.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money, July 2, 2001
This review is from: Kodak F600 Advantix Zoom APS Camera (Electronics)
I used to use disposable cameras before I decided to go ahead and buy a 'real' camera. After buying this one I wish I had stuck to the disposable kind. I have to be honest and say that I really like the option of taking panoramic pictures and the size and weight of the camera BUT...Every time you take a picture with this camera, it pauses, zooms in a little and then takes a picture. What this means is that you can forget about taking pictures of non-static events and forget about ever getting a shot with good composition. I would recommend buying another camera or just sticking to the disposable ones.
