1.0 out of 5 stars THIS IS NOT a Kodak 18% Gray Card, July 28, 2011

If you're looking for a true standard 18% Gray Card from Kodak, keep looking because this is a set of cards made up by a company called "Digital Image Flow." Why does the title of this page say "by Kodak" in blue? That's a good question. Maybe someone thinks it doesn't make a difference. One gray card is just as gray as another one, right? This page even shows a photograph of a real Kodak 18% Gray Card in the yellow Kodak wrapper. But that's not what you get.

5.0 out of 5 stars 2 large and accurate 18% gray cards plus a 4" x 5" pocket card, April 6, 2009
This review is from: Gray Card 18% R-27 (Electronics)
First off a note on the manufacturer: The R-27 card set I got was not made by Kodak, Kodak no longer makes this item. I guess Kodak is getting out of the film and camera business. The new maker is DGK, which is fine by me as long as they are high quality and accurate 18% gray cards, which these are, IMO.

The 3-pack of R-27 type gray cards I got was the very reasonably priced set that comes from DGK. It consists of two 8" x 10" cardboard 18% gray cards and a pocket-sized 4" x 5" card. These cards are made of medium weight cardboard.

This set is perfect for an exposure aid for film photography as well as a white balance card for digital photography. The larger cards are very sturdy, solid and durable. The smaller card is easy to fit in you pocket. The cards are not waterproof.

For digital photographers who prefer a three- card set with a white, gray, and black card, or need waterproof cards, I'd recommend the Digital Grey Kard Premium;Digital Grey Kard Premium White Balance Card / Gray Card for Digital Photography The cards in that set are PVC plastic and they are waterproof.

If you like a larger card to use for weddings, sports, and other events I'd take a look at the Digital Grey Kard Event (5 by 7 inch size);Digital Grey Kard - Event Sized - White Balance Card - Gray Card for Digital Photography which are plastic and cannot be damaged by humidity, raindrops, spilled coffee, or water splashes.

The shade of gray does not matter for either, really, as real-world tests show. It's the spectral neutrality of the object that really matters. These cards are very accurate and a great value. Buyers should know that these are not made by Kodak, they are made in the USA by DGK.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must For Professionals, July 16, 2008

As a pro photographer, proper white balance is a must, even when shooting in RAW. You can save yourself 1000 headaches trying to get that picture to look right! These cards have streamlined my proofing process down to minutes from hours.

Heavy duty cards (read: thick, almost cardboard thick)and the smaller one comes with a plastic sleeve to protect it while in your camera bag.
