Was expecting a lot better....
on September 25, 2012
I ordered the item, it arrived within only a couple of days, that part was great. That's where the good stuff ends, however. When I got the ZX5, as a refurb, it still clearly needed refurbishing. It didn't work. So being as the seller I ordered from had a "No returns on refurbs" clause hidden in their terms, I had to contact Kodak for a warrantied repair. Kodak did honor the warranty, and I shipped out the device at my own cost, and after about a month from my initial order date it was repaired and sent back to me.
When I sent the device in for repair it had NO blemishes at all, it just didn't work. When I got it back, it had a huge scratch across the LCD screen, as if somebody slipped with the screwdriver. Just today I took some videos with it to test it out and EVEN ON FULL 1080P THE VIDEO QUALITY IS HORRIBLE!!! I mean, I didn't expect the quality of a $5000 camera or anything, but this video is so bad I can't justify using this device for it's intended purpose, it's just really, really, really bad. Clearly visible on the video is loads of blotchiness, 5-6 frames worth of ghosting, and it seems like lots and lots of grain and blurriness on parts of the video. It's almost like they must have damaged the camera while repairing it, I dunno, the quality is terrible and that makes this device unusable. Even the still shots look terrible and are filled with artifacts and blurriness. This is, hands down, the worst camera I have ever used in my life, period.
So, after seeing all of the decent reviews for this camera online and getting excited to finally order my own after a lot of debate, I am regretting it hardcore. I can't say for certain what a person can expect from a new ZX5, but DO NOT BUY THE REFURBS! They're garbage, they were sent back for a valid reason and all of them belong in the dumpster. I'm going to throw this device in the electronics recycle bin as I cannot seriously see myself or anybody else using it for anything, it's completely worthless as a camera.
