I'm shooting a Canon T3i 18 megapixel SLR camera with Canon's best lenses, and, shooting in RAW and maximum JPG; ISO 400.

I also have a Koni Rapid Omega 220, medium foremat rangefinder camera with interchangable lenses and film backs, circa 1970.

Guess what ?

Kodak's film makes the digital camera look like a toy camera! Kodak's color stauration, resolution and fineness of grain is magnificent. Colors are better, and a digitized negative allows any control you may want if you're stuck in digi - land

If you're a Pro, then you shoot film. Period.

I have used Kodak Portra 400 over the last year and I am very pleased with its performance. This is a great film for low light and non-ideal available light conditions. Just as other reviews have stated, I have been able to shoot the Portra 400 medium format film pushed 1-stop or 2-stop with very little increase in grain. When scanned by a pro lab, the scans color saturation is mild compared to Kodak E100VS and is just a bit less saturated than E100G or Fuji Provia100F. This is an ideal film for family outings and portraiture for my 6x4.5cm and 6x9cm medium format cameras.

A word of caution, if you are new to the 220 format, you should beware that 220 film roll needs extra attention when you are loading it in your camera. Take extra care to align both the top & bottom edges as you load your take-up spool. Use your thumb to apply pressure on the supply spool as you advance the film to its starting position. Make sure to read your camera manual as to where the beginning alignment arrow should be for 220 film loading, since it can be different from 120 format. I was in a hurry loading my first roll of 220 film in the field and ended up with a loosely wound take-up spool which caused light leak. My second roll did not have this issue, since I took my time to prep before heading out the door.

I would have no problem using Portra 400 on my travels, for mixed landscapes & people photos with neutral color saturation and accurate color balance. This is very a good film. This film is worth every penny.

This film makes people look great. It is completely flattering, making your subjects look better than real life. Yet somehow it manages to also appear detailed and accurate at the same time. I like the 400 speed because I don't have a sophisticated flash setup and I like to close the aperture a little for extra depth of field for kids who can't stand still.

The performance of this film is amazing. Color, latitude and sharpness. The grain, even viewed on a 100% crop looks beautiful. Out of focus areas look creamy and the focus areas capture so much detail.
