Product Description

The PORTRA 400 is the world's finest grain high-speed color negative film. At true ISO 400 speed, this film delivers spectacular skin tones plus exceptional color saturation over a wide range of lighting conditions. For years, professional photographers have preferred Kodak PROFESSIONAL PORTRA Films because of their consistently smooth, natural reproduction of the full range of skin tones. In that same tradition, the new PORTRA 400 Film is the ideal choice for portrait and fashion photography, as well as for nature, travel and outdoor photography, where the action is fast or the lighting can't be controlled.

5.0 out of 5 stars A really great film September 21, 2011

I have shot about 20 rolls of this stuff, so this review has been long in the making. And my final word is: Kodak Portra 400 is a really great film. It's not too punchy, it's not too muted, it's very accurate reproducing colors, and has GREAT latitude. Accidentally overexposed three stops? No problem, you most likely got the shot. Set the ISO to 1600? Don't worry about it. Don't even push the film. It will be fine, with little extra grain. This stuff is EXCELLENT, and amazing for portraits! Use this film along with a low-light lens like an f/1.4, set it to f/2 or under, and underexpose a stop or two, and you will get DREAMY portraits.

I give it 4.5 stars, because I wish it was just a little bit more punchy, but that is a very minor complaint (and I complain too much.) I'll just mark it with 5 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kodak Portra 400 is OUTSTANDING!!! June 16, 2011
I simply LOVE this film! Outstanding Saturated Color and Detail, Great Latitude and exceptionally fine grain. I've been shooting film for over 30 years and this has to be the finest film stock I have ever shot with. Scans beautifully in digital form as well. I swear you'll fall in love with film photography all over again. Kodak gets 5 stars!

5.0 out of 5 stars beautiful film January 20, 2013

Film yields nice colors and sharp, fine-grained images. Lays flat, easy to scan. Colors are better for skin tones than they are in photos taken with Ektar. This is a really great film; if you are looking for an ASA400 color print film you likely will be very happy with it.

I won't use any other film now for color portraits! Portra just works so good with skin tones and brings out soft and dreamy portraits like nothing else.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW!
Yup, it lives up to the hype for color and sharpness. I haven't tried the 2 stop push that I have heard this film can do with no problem, but I can't wait to try. Read more

First of all I won't repeat the reviews of the film performance. This is the best stuff since sliced bread. I have been through a Propack in 120 medium format and loved it. Read more
