I already own a Kodak PlaySport Zx3, which has really great video and photo quality. It is also water resistant.

The specs for this camera (14mp, water/shock/freeze/dust resistant, etc.) appealed to me because we do some resort vacations.

In a nutshell:
1. The controls on the back of the camera are too close to the bottom edge, almost requiring you to hold the camera with one hand and operate the controls with the other. This is particularly true if you have large hands and/or long fingers. Not at all comfortable.

2. The instruction manual is a farce. It usually (but not always) tells you how to reach a certain command in the menu, but rarely (if ever) tells you enough detail about what the choices in each menu item will do. There is even contradictory information between the instructions and the camera itself regarding special effects: in the manual, under video recording, the user is shown how to select one of a handful of effects (Sepia, B&W, etc.).
Yet, the camera warns you that some of the effects aren't available when video recording.

3. The LCD screen, which is larger than the Zx3, appealed to me, but then it turned out that the bottom third of the screen is usually dedicated to a bunch of data about the settings, a histogram of the current image, etc. I was never able to ditch that data and get a larger image on the entire LCD.

4. Horizontal vs Vertical mode: okay, I understand that. But how do you make the camera change the viewable image from one to the other? It's not apparent from the instructions. And there is no accelerometer in the device to make that switch for you, like a smartphone does.

Purchased as a gift for my high school son who happens to be a drummer. If a few days, he posted his first video of him playing drums on Youtube. He absolutely loves this camera. The macro and slow motion features along with the quality of the video it shoots has him very impressed, considering he has had 2 other cheaper cameras that were a disappointment and a waste of money at best. I am tempted to buy one for me along with extra memory cards.

I've been looking around for this camera locally then decided to go online. I order from amazon(prime) so naturally i came here. I often get a better price on amazon but was surprised when I found it listed at $200+ when bestbuy had it for $129. Disappointed...
