Product Description

Although Kodiak Cakes was created in 1995, its origins go back long before. For many years, Penny Clark thought of packaging up her father’s pancake recipe and starting a business selling great tasting whole grain pancake mixes. One summer day in 1982, she decided she would mix up the dry ingredients of Grandpa's "hot cakes" recipe and sell them to our neighborhood in brown paper lunch sacks. On the outside of each sack were the mixing and cooking instructions that she had carefully handwritten. Once the sacks were all filled with ingredients, Mom helped eight-year-old son Joel load up his Radio Flyer red wagon, and sent him off to sell them to the neighborhood. In no time, Joel returned home having sold each mix. Now, nearly 30 years later, Kodiak Cakes Frontier Flapjack and Waffle Mix is sold all over the United States and remains a family business. Consumers love how light and tasty Kodiak flapjacks are. Then they are amazed to find out that the mix made with 100% whole grains with no added fat or sugar, and all you do is add water. Deep commitment to use 100% whole grains and all natural ingredients and recycled packaging will always remain with Kodiak Cakes. With Kodiak Cakes consumers can once again enjoy a healthy flapjack that actually tastes good, and pass on the lifeless creations that commonly pass for pancakes these days. A customer wrote: “Simply put, the best pancakes I’ve ever tried.”

This waffle mix is delicious - the only thing I would change is adding a little melted butter to the batter to help it release from the waffle iron a little easier. (I've sprayed PAM, but a combo of spray and butter works perfectly.)

My wife and I are runners and all around athletes. I bought these after seeing Ryan Hall rave about them on his blog. Here are a few thoughts.

They may seem expensive, but what I found is that they are so filling, we don't have to eat much. We make 3 servings per meal (I usually eat 2 and my wife 1). This is 1 cup which is about a 1/7 of the box. That meal ends up being about $0.75 for the two of us! Also, most pancakes usually have tons of calories, I can eat two servings, be comfortably full and only have eaten 260 calories. That's amazing!

They are very quick to make. We have only made pancakes so far, but it only takes about 20 seconds of whisking. How easy is that?

As for taste, I'm not AMAZED but they are good. They are boarder-line bland, so I put a little butter spray on them. We often mix them with fruit. However, for wholegrain... I'd say they are excellent. We've started mixing in protein powder and that has the potential to improve the taste depending on the protein you use.

Healthy, cheap, easy, tasty, hearty... what more do you want?

Found this in the grocery store while looking for a healthy (read: no artificials, has whole grain) mix for the kids. It was so easy and so good that it's the only mix we use. Heck, we use it to make cookies too at times.

I'll never use another product. They taste great, and they also have an oat & honey version of the flapjack mix that adds some variety.

Also, as others have noted while they are a little more expensive, we use less and any extras are used for snacks on trips to the zoo, etc.

I also like that it's just a 50/50 ratio of mix & water, so they are a breeze to make either for flapjacks or waffles, though I tend to make it a little thinner for pancakes.

this tastes great, but online it doesn't clearly state the ingredients. We have a peanut and tree nut allergy in our family, and this is made in a tree nut facility, so we can't use it. Wish they made they clear on the packaging.

This pancake mix is excellent, if you are looking for a wheat pancake, that is light and fluffy, look no further. The combination of wheat and oat flour, makes this pancake mix, one of the best! I gifted Kodiak Cakes Mix, this past Christmas, with a wooden spoon & spatula...there were smiles all around.

I have purchased this item for many years in the grocery stores, which has been hard to find and the price is almost doubled to the Amazon price. I have purchased directly from the company, but had trouble with delivery and communication. I love this product. We all love this product. I have given it away to many friends and one came back with the Amazon site and price. This will be my second order in a bit over a month because I gave quite a few boxes of this product in a gift-basket for the holidays. It was well received and reviewed. It is delicious, but most of all I am a diabetic and the whole grain mix is allowed.Kodiak Cakes Frontier Flapjack & Waffle Mix, 24-Ounce Boxes (Pack of 6)

These are hands down the best pancakes ever. I am so sad my grocery doesn't have them anymore. They are incredible. I will have to buy online it seems. Anyone who doesn't like the gut bomb feeling of a pancake should try these, you will be surprised at the way you feel after you eat them. You feel great, and they are so much better in texture and flavor than any other mix, and better than the pancakes I've made from scratch from several recipes. Give them a try!

Nutritious AND delicious? Good quality ingredients that are actually affordable?! C'mon, this is 2013. By now, the most discerning reader will have detected the sarcasm in this review. Kodiak Cakes flapjack mix is the only-- and i mean ONLY-- thing I will allow myself to eat for breakfast. People will say things like "I don't have time to make a decent breakfast, because I'm an American and I'm always in a hurry doing business stuff at the expense of my health and well-being." Enough of that. Kodiak Cakes flapjack mix takes approximately 5-minutes from prep to plate. You can't find 5 minutes? I bet the time spent waiting in line at the coffee shop for a processed muffin takes you at LEAST 5 minutes. Do you care about what you put into your body? Probably not, but your family does. Do it for them.

Become a better person, become a stronger person.

Become the bear.

Kodiak Cakes: Because, you're welcome, America.
