Product Description

Size: Pack of 6

Although Kodiak Cakes was created in 1995, its origins go back long before. For many years, Penny Clark thought of packaging up her father’s pancake recipe and starting a business selling great tasting whole grain pancake mixes. One summer day in 1982, she decided she would mix up the dry ingredients of Grandpa's "hot cakes" recipe and sell them to our neighborhood in brown paper lunch sacks. On the outside of each sack were the mixing and cooking instructions that she had carefully handwritten. Once the sacks were all filled with ingredients, Mom helped eight-year-old son Joel load up his Radio Flyer red wagon, and sent him off to sell them to the neighborhood. In no time, Joel returned home having sold each mix. Now, nearly 30 years later, Kodiak Cakes Frontier Flapjack and Waffle Mix is sold all over the United States and remains a family business. Consumers love how light and tasty Kodiak flapjacks are. Then they are amazed to find out that the mix made with 100% whole grains with no added fat or sugar, and all you do is add water. Deep commitment to use 100% whole grains and all natural ingredients and recycled packaging will always remain with Kodiak Cakes. With Kodiak Cakes consumers can once again enjoy a healthy flapjack that actually tastes good, and pass on the lifeless creations that commonly pass for pancakes these days. A customer wrote: “Simply put, the best pancakes I’ve ever tried.”

My wife and I are runners and all around athletes. I bought these after seeing Ryan Hall rave about them on his blog. Here are a few thoughts.

They may seem expensive, but what I found is that they are so filling, we don't have to eat much. We make 3 servings per meal (I usually eat 2 and my wife 1). This is 1 cup which is about a 1/7 of the box. That meal ends up being about $0.75 for the two of us! Also, most pancakes usually have tons of calories, I can eat two servings, be comfortably full and only have eaten 260 calories. That's amazing!

They are very quick to make. We have only made pancakes so far, but it only takes about 20 seconds of whisking. How easy is that?

As for taste, I'm not AMAZED but they are good. They are boarder-line bland, so I put a little butter spray on them. We often mix them with fruit. However, for wholegrain... I'd say they are excellent. We've started mixing in protein powder and that has the potential to improve the taste depending on the protein you use.

Healthy, cheap, easy, tasty, hearty... what more do you want?

This waffle mix is delicious - the only thing I would change is adding a little melted butter to the batter to help it release from the waffle iron a little easier. (I've sprayed PAM, but a combo of spray and butter works perfectly.)

this is my third order of this mix. It makes the best wheat waffles around. Everyone wants to know where I got it after they eat some of the great waffles. I have not made pancakes out of the mix yet, but would bet it makes a killer flapjacks.

Saw these on Shark Tank and had to try it. I was not disappointed. You only need to add water and although they are free of additives and full of whole grain, they taste fantastic and are very easy to prepare. Light, fluffy and delicious. Try them, you will surely like them.

I was a little hesitant when my husband bought this after watching shark tank... but it tastes so much better than the brand name brand I usually get from the store and not even in the same category as the frozen version! I'm hooked, just bought 6 boxes because this will now be a staple in our house!

I saw this product on Shark Tank a few nights ago (I assume a re-run since the original aired in April) and immediately wanted to try it. I recently started an exercise program along with improving my diet, so this product fits perfectly with my desired lifestyle. My wife bought a box at Target, and after the first batch I decided to go online to see if I had made them wrong. I followed the recipe for the highest amount of protein, adding one cup of skim milk and one egg, rather than the basic recipe adding only water. The first thing I noticed was how thin the batter was. I added about another 1/4 cup of flour, but it was still pretty thin. As expected, the cakes themselves were also quite thin after cooking. Some other reviews state that they made light and fluffy cakes, so I'm really wondering how they did that? Next batch I will try making with only water to see if that's the difference, although I really prefer having the additional nutrition from the milk and egg.

As to the taste itself, I agree with some of the other less positive reviews that state there is very little flavor to the flour, and that the egg I added was the dominant flavor. Mostly I'm disappointed with the flatness and density of the cake. If anyone out there has determined the secret to making these light and fluffy, please comment. I will continue to eat these as I really appreciate the effort to make a healthy product, and I like to support businesses that promote this lifestyle. I just want those amazing tasting cakes that the Sharks got to try on the show! Especially after seeing the incredible preponderance of 5 star reviews here on Amazon.

This pancake mix is excellent, if you are looking for a wheat pancake, that is light and fluffy, look no further. The combination of wheat and oat flour, makes this pancake mix, one of the best! I gifted Kodiak Cakes Mix, this past Christmas, with a wooden spoon & spatula...there were smiles all around.

Saw this on Shark Tank and couldn't wait to try it. I waited until I was really hungry and had time to "dine". They are very easy to make....equal amounts water and mix. They are also edible...not horrible but not great, either. You need plenty of butter and syrup and there is still a very slight bitterness in the cake. The best store bought mix I have ever
had was buttermilk/honey mix from Kenyon Mills in Rhode Island. It is a little pricey but worth every penny. This isn't a close runner up. Would not buy again.
