5.0 out of 5 stars Needle in a haystack, April 24, 2006
By
A reader (San Francisco, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Koechlin: Vocal works with orchestra (Audio CD)
I notice that this set hasn't been reviewed by anyone else. That's too bad, but understandable--who is Charles Koechlin? All I know is he should be much better known. This set offers up nearly two hours of sustained beauty on a par with the works of Debussy, Duparc, Faure, and Ravel. Why take my word for it--check out some of the reviews online (a good handful are collected at the Koechlin family website, koechlin.net). Opinions from France, Belgium, Germany, Britain, and the U.S. are unanimous, and everyone asks the same question: where has this music been for the last 100 years? If you troll through lists of new releases wondering whether there are musical masterpieces out there of which you've never heard, and if you adore the music of the composers named above, this set is for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Haunting Masterpieces!, April 1, 2010
By
Platinum Man (Oakland, CA USA) - See all my reviews
These works are absolutely the most enticing and timeless vocal works with orchestra I have ever heard. Everyone involved here (soprano, ensemble, orhestra, conductor, engineers) render these incredible pieces with felicitous beauty. One of the great mysteries in life is the relative anonymity of this masterful French composer and his gorgeous music. A HEARTY congrats to Hansller Classic for their marvelous series of Koechlin CD's. ANY lover of music of ANY genre is hereby encouraged to GET THIS CD SET!!!
