5.0 out of 5 stars The BEST Hindi Sci-Fi Movie EVER!!!!
This is the BEST Hindi sci-fi movie ever made!! Every technical aspect of this movie is very well done, especially the visual effects (which are good enought to rival that of Hollywood's). The performance put on by Hrithik Roshan is just amazing, including his dances. There were also marvelous performances put on by Preity Zinta, Rekha, the kids, and others. They might...

The performance put on by Hrithik Roshan is just amazing, including his dances. There were also marvelous performances put on by Preity Zinta, Rekha, the kids, and others. They might have gone just slightly overboard with the alien, named Jadoo, but still every well done. This movie is not that much of a sci-fi movie, but is equally balanced between children's, romance, and sci-fi. The songs and music in this movie are great, the music being done by Rajesh Roshan, the brother of the director of this film Rakesh Roshan. Just All in all, this is a great for everyone!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Bollywood E.T., January 25, 2004

This review is from: Koi Mil Gaya (DVD)
This movie is the Bollywood Remake of ET. It stars the stars Hrithik Roshan who plays the challenging role of a mentally retarded boy who falls in love with Priety Zinta. Roshan was disabled in an accident that was caused by aliens. His father once made contact with ETs using his old computer before he was involved in the accident and died. Hrithik brings out the old computer and makes contact again, but when the aliens come, they leave one behind. Hrithik finds it but what happens after that. This is an almost flawless movie with excellent songs. A must-see for all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunned. Hrithik's best., December 6, 2006
By
This review is from: Koi Mil Gaya (DVD)
When one saw the trailer of Koi Mil Gaya, prior to watching the film, one was like "Wow! How are they gonna pull it off? " A lot of people say Koi Mil Gaya is basically ET + FORREST GUMP. This is not untrue. Hrithik's character as Rohit was as likable as a character can get. I think I cried for a good three minutes in the film and later in the film, ALSO , felt this adrenaline flow through me.

Koi Mil Gaya is more than a Sci-Fiction. It is more than a film made for all audiences. It is more than any film Bollywood promises. I came out of the theater with more than just a smile. I seldom construe to such an overtly explicit display of "goodness" There is a rage in Hrithik's performance that overwhelms you more than once and soon you lose count.
It is not in the songs. It is not in the casting. It is not in the character of the alien. Nor is it the actress. It's all about Hrithik and what one man can do. This film was a huge risk that paid off. Media had written him off as a one hit wonder but he said he'll come back. This is the finest example of a winner.

Excellent direction. Sublime performances. Decent stunts. Overall, a thorough three hours of ENTERTAINMENT.

4.0 out of 5 stars High Quality In-Flight Entertainment, April 4, 2004

One part E.T., two parts Flowers for Algernon, one-third part The Absent Minded Professor, one-and-a-half parts musical, all parts fun! Koi...Mil Gaya is the heartwarming tale of an eleven-fingered halfwit and a supernatural alien who (despite all odds) discover the true meaning of friendship, get the girl for the good guy, and beat the baddies, all without missing a dance step. Truly a film for the ages (and for all ages).

5.0 out of 5 stars HRITHIK ROSHAN IS SUPERB, August 29, 2003
By

Hrithik Roshan certainly studied for his part. He was EXCELLENT. The story was good, and despite what the reviews were by some critics in India, the ending was good. How else could it have have been done, what did they expect? The storyline was different from the "now boring movies of 2 boys liking one girl,or two girls liking one boy" Enough of that already. Rajesh Roshan tried something different and it worked. Kudos to him and and his handsome, talented and very sexy son. Its a family movie that all should see. I, myself saw it 4 times. :-)

5.0 out of 5 stars Something from every Hollywood film, April 15, 2006
This review is from: Koi Mil Gaya (DVD)
This Bollywood film's maker said it was pure coincidence that his film mirrored parts of many Hollywood films. For example, Jadoo resembles E.T, but Rohit is not Forrest Gump. If Rohit is anyone, Rohit was the mentally-retarded character in "Flowers for Algernon" who achieved a normal intellect only to lose it again. The bullies pestering Rohit seem to mirror the bullies who were after Daniel"san" in "The Karate Kid". The Three Stooges-type slap-stick comedy where Rohit wipes up the basketball court with the bullies is unrealistic and a bit irritating. In short, it seemed that the film's maker thought this was his one and only chance to make a film and so he tried everything in film-making that he could think of.

That said, this was a great film that appeals to young and old alike. Rohit's mother is a great actress in addition to being extremely famous in the Indian subcontinent. This film should be classified as a musical because there were many songs of traditional Bollywood length, but it is also a drama, sci-fi, romance, and comedy. It's pretty amazing how all those genres were put into one film. Most of the film is subtitled because most of the characters speak Hindi, except for the European scientists who speak English. The subtitles did not detract from the film's ability to captivate an audience.

The plot revolves around a special needs kid who should have been brilliant had his Mom not been in a car accident after his father, who was driving, was distracted by a UFO. The resulting car crash killed the kid's father and left the kid brain-damaged. When the UFO returns years later and accidentally leaves behind Jadoo, he repairs the brain damage that Rohit suffered. But that damage can only stay healed as long as Jadoo is there. It is a heart-wrenching scene when Jadoo's people return for him and Rohit must return to his challenged condition.

I really like this film; it's cute. Yeh movie bahut achee hai. However parents should be cautioned that there is inappropriate public displays of affection between adult characters in this film and there is a scene in a nightclub involving alcohol beverages. I think this negative Hollywood behaviour was included because this Indian film was shot on location in Canada rather than India. Karab jigga ageh karlehn.

5.0 out of 5 stars New to Bollywood? Take a Chance with Koi. . . Mil Gaya, February 20, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Koi...Mil Gaya (DVD)
This delightful film stars the two best Bollywood dancers in film today, Hrithik Roshan and Preity Zinta (Mission Kashmir). It proves to be a clever & heartwarming departure from the usual Bollywood movies where the simple predictable plots are just a vehicle to view the wonderful song and dance scenes. Roshan stars as Rohit, a mentally challenged adult who struggles to come to grips with his unfair fate. He meets Zinta's character, who at first mistakes his blunders for malice. She soon discovers the true heart of this unusual man and his magical friend Jadoo. You'll have to watch the movie yourself to find out about Jadoo, I don't want to spoil the fun and suspense. This film could be enjoyed by the whole family. If a child can read, he'll have no trouble following this story and in fact it would make a good first foreign film for anyone who hasn't viewed one before and would like to give it a try.

5.0 out of 5 stars Now THIS is Entertainment !!!!!, September 20, 2003
Pure unadulterated fun .. Total gripping entertainment, never a dull moment. The acting is A-class, Hritiks best to date. The story is solid, the music is excellent. The special effects (apart from the patchy opening credits sequence and the flying birds in the first song) are the best ever seem in a Bollywood production. No resort to any cheap tomfoolery gimmicks or vulgarity, the whole family can enjoy it. Full kudos to Rakesh roshan and his team. He has really conjured up something totally off-beat here but with the Bollywood soul definitely intact in it. Bravo !!!

Definitely worth repeated viewings and one for the all-time Bollywood collection list.

4.0 out of 5 stars A better-than-averge Hindi / Indian movie!, August 24, 2003
By A Customer
As an American with part-Indian heritage, I watch as many "Bollywood" (made in Bombay, India) movies that I can... I love the musicals, the 'Disney-like' idealism, sometimes handsome guys and -- if Kajol is in it, she is SUCH a beauty! There are usually solid family morals, and often beautiful scenery. The best few have, in addition to the beautiful faces and outfits, also a complex plot and stellar acting. The worst find me so distracted by the cheesy songs and HORRIBLE acting, when the filmmakers obviously picked an actor based on looks alone...
Anyway, this movie was definitely in my top 10 indian movies! Cute songs, an interesting plot (OK, you have to expect a few things borrowed from ET/ Close Encounters!) but it's a fun 2.5 hour ride. I DON'T think you need to be Indian to enjoy this movie (I'm not!) and the nice thing is, it is totally rated G -- the only drawback for small children is keeping up with the subtitles. But what can you do if it's a foreign film, eh? And, I noticed a few times when the subtitles weren't 100% accurate -- sorry, I'm a stickler for anything that will distract me from full enjoyment, which is why I gave this 4 out of 5. Go SEE IT!!! :)
