Great Alternative to the more expensive strollers!,
By Madison and Nathan's Mom (North Carolina) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Kolcraft Tour Mate Umbrella Stroller (Baby Product)
We have two children, 20 months old and 9 months old. Our 20 month old was a late walker so for three months I had two that had to be carried. A double stroller was a must! Here's what we like and don't like:
NOTE: I know this says it is unavailable for purchase but you can buy it on the Wal-Mart website for $60. Pros: 1. Very lightweight 2. Small- doesn't take up your entire trunk (we have a Honda Odyssey) the way some of the bigger double strollers do. It is so small that we can fit this in our trunk along with the double jog stroller and still fit a few bags of groceries. 3. detachable cup holder on the side is great. I love this because I am a big water drinker and it is nice to have a cup holder. However, it does make it to wide to fit through some narrower doorways but it is so easy to pop on and off that I can just take it off if necessary. 4. CHEAP! This was only $60- so much better compared to the prices of the graco tandem or some others. I figure that even if it wears out after a couple of years and we have to buy a second it will still be much cheaper than buying one of the larger, more expensive strollers. 5. Good wheels- no problem with them locking up, not turning, etc. as you see on some cheap strollers. 6. Fits through all doorways so far! We haven't got stuck yet! Cons: 1. Kids sometimes bother each other. I bought a side-by-side stroller b/c in the reviews of the tandem strollers I read that they often had a problem with the child in the back not being able to see, etc. Well, the problem with this is that they are next to each other. That means big sister taking toy from little brother, little brother pulling out sister's hair ribbons, etc. 2. Allthough we haven't been unable to fit through any doors yet, it has been a VERY tight squeeze. 3. When shopping it can be hard to fit it between the racks b/c racks are so close together. But, I don't like to leave them unattended in the aisle either. It is a problem. 4. No underneath storage basket. They do have these mesh bags that hang on the back but we don't really like them. An easy and cheap solution are these little clips you can buy in the stroller accessories area for about $3. They hook onto the stroller handle and then have another hook hanging off it that you can put your purse, shopping bags, diaper bags, etc. on. This stroller is especially great for quick errands- running into the drug store or doctor's office. It is not so great for longer trips or walks. We use a double jog stroller for walks, the park, etc.
