5.0 out of 5 stars Colossal
As strange as it may sounds, I purposefully stopped listening to Armada before buying this album. Since the band considers it a follow up to that album, and due to the overwhelmingly positive reception that Armada received, ignoring that album seemed like the only way to give Kolossus a fair shot. Silly. I should have had more faith in Keep of Kalessin...

1.0 out of 5 stars This...I don't know...no.
I stopped listening to these guys after Agnen. I could not get into their transition and the new style they do. Seems lately all I see listening to new Keep Of Kalessin is these fat ugly women like the ones from firewalk music who just like a band because the front man has long hair and is skeletal skinny. It is paper thin sounding, boring, and just seems to repeat...

Kolossus is hands down the best black metal release of this year, which is quite a feat considering that Satyricon, Ihsahn, Belphegor, and Khold all released albums this year. The speed and fury of Kolossus is unmatched and unparalleled. But, true to the Keep of Kalessin style, this album weaves melodies in with the crushing assault.

This album is definitely on par with Armada. And while it is certainly a continuation of that album, it is by no means a clone. There are no reused themes, riffs, or melodies. It is also worth mentioning that the production is somewhat different from previous Kalessin albums, with a much greater emphasis being placed on the drums, which are much higher in the mix. The beats and drum patterns are much more varied and less predictable as well.

In short, an excellent album. But I suggest buying the edition with the bonus DVD, if you're into that sort of thing.

I stopped listening to these guys after Agnen. I could not get into their transition and the new style they do. Seems lately all I see listening to new Keep Of Kalessin is these fat ugly women like the ones from firewalk music who just like a band because the front man has long hair and is skeletal skinny. It is paper thin sounding, boring, and just seems to repeat itself. The best Keep Of Kalessin is through times of war and agnen, that is all you really need from these guys, their new material is rubbish, it isn't even blackmetal, here you will find the same old boring viking and fantasy metal we have heard time and time again, and it is done poorly at that. This is one of those bands who should have called it quits a few years ago rather than release material that is below mediocre. If you are into blackmetal and want power and cold grim atmosphere, look elsewhere you will not find that on this drink coaster, ahem...I mean CD. I do not recommend this. I thought I would speak my mind on this one. I get tired of people talking up crap. And that is what this release is.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good but.........., November 6, 2008
This review is from: Kolossus (Bonus Dvd) (Audio CD)
I was very happy with the quality of my used CD purchase. It was flawless, and without any scratches or blemishes. However I was suprised to see that the copy I received was a promo only copy and and "Not for Sale" and "Promotional Copy Only" all over it. I called the record label (Nuclear Blast) and told them the sellers e-mail address. Normally I wouldn't care, but the copy I got had no booklet with it.
