4.0 out of 5 stars Love this knife!, June 27, 2006
This review is from: Pure Komachi by Kai 6-Inch Stainless-Steel Tomato Knife with Serrated Edge (Kitchen)
I love tomatoes and find that I can cut the thinnest slices with this knife, yet it is useful for cutting breads and cucumbers as well. I also have the 6.5 inch veggie knife and find that very sharp and easy to use. I like lightweight and these are very easy to handle, and compliment my Global veggie knife well.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Knife at a Great Price!, January 24, 2007

This review is from: Pure Komachi by Kai 6-Inch Stainless-Steel Tomato Knife with Serrated Edge (Kitchen)
I was impressed by this small knife which is excellent for cutting soft foods such as tomatoes. The knife is quite small and easy to handle, and the serrated edge is very sharp. Naturally I wouldn't recommend it in place of a Chef's knife, but it does a great job when you do need a small serrated knife. It's a bit too small for slicing bread, but works very well for small vegetables. The included sheath was a nice touch.

The blade while stamped, appears well made and like other Komachi knives, has a colorful coating which among other things, makes the knife easy to find and identify.

I gave this knife four stars instead of five because of the build quality, I wasn't all that impressed with the plastic handle. At the price though I think that the plastic handle is more than acceptable. Overall, i'd recommend this knive, and would say that it provides excellent value.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bought for a specific task, it performs perfectly!, September 3, 2009

I bake artisanal breads, that require scoring--knife slashes that rupture the dough's surface--before baking. These slashes allow the baking bread to expand (oven rise) in a preferred direction (usually up). The expanded slashes have a secondary payoff that is mostly aesthetic: making eye-pleasing patterns in the baked loaves' crusts. It takes an exceptionally sharp knife to cut raised dough cleanly. This knife is up to the task.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stays Sharp Cuts Tomatos with ease, April 11, 2009

This review is from: Pure Komachi by Kai 6-Inch Stainless-Steel Tomato Knife with Serrated Edge (Kitchen)
I have had this knife for three years now and use it often for cutting fresh tomatoes. I've used it with all sort of tomatoes - cherry tomatoes, to romas, to large ones fresh off the vine. It breaks through the skin with ease without crushing the tomato.

The stand / sheath that it came with was nice but when I purchased a knife magnet I stopped using it.

With 3.5 years of use it is still sharp and there are no rust spots.

update 09/23/2009

This weekend when I was using this knife I was again amzaed at how sharp it has remained. It slices through the skin with ease still after all these years of use.

The Komachi tomato knife is thin wall enough to produce nice thick or as thin as you want tomato slices. Very sharp, I just wish it was about
1" longer to easier cut those "bun-size" tomatoes I find sometimes. It does the job very well though.
