CLASSIC RAC Album!!! Essential for all Oi fanatics!!!!, April 28, 2007
This review is from: Kombat d'Hier et de Demain (Audio CD)
I'll begin by stating the obvious. SKREWDRIVER ain't for all tastes. Now admittedly, I'm not particularly sympathetic to the SKREWDRIVER political creed, but despite this fact, I still find their albums to be among the GREATEST Skinhead/Oi records ever recorded. "White Rider" is no exception. Picking up right where "Hail the New Dawn" and "Blood & Honour" left off, Ian and the boys kick out some major street jams. It's weird because even though I really don't dig the racial aspect of things here, I can't help but sing along to tunes like "White Warriors" and the super moody and dark classic "The Snow Fell". Bottom line: SKREWDRIVER rank in my mind as the BEST Skinhead/Oi group of all time(albeit tied with BLITZ, 4-SKINS, LAST RESORT, THE BUSINESS, and ANGELIC UPSTARTS...oh yeah, and of course BRUTAL ATTACK). It's too bad so many so-called "open-minded" punks get so close-minded and reactionary whenever they hear a band that they disagree with. Lighten up and pop on a CONFLICT or CRASS LP if your liberal sensibilities are truly so insulted. Meanwhile I'll be enjoying me SKREWDRIVER with a grain of sand firmly in mind.... And remember, freedom of speech is granted to all, not just those whom you agree with!!!! Just think, Ebay won't even allow SKREWDRIVER albums to be sold on their site. Fascism anyone? Where's the ACLU when you need 'em....

One of their best albums, July 21, 2006
This review is from: Kombat d'Hier et de Demain (Audio CD)
Released in 1987, this album rocks from start to finish. The rulers of the world thought they could silence Ian Stuart by sending him to jail for a year in 1986, but after Ian`s release from prison he was more determined than ever to keep on fighting the masters of the money and power. This was the album that came out after Ian`s release from prison, most of these songs were written while he was doing time. Great hard rock songs and Ian actually sings, rather than growls, on this album. Ian was a big fan of the author J R R Tolkien. Lord of the Rings was his favorite book. This could have been where Ian got the idea for the title for this album, as one of the charaters in Lord of the Rings, Gandalf, is also known as the White Rider. After this album was released Ian`s enemies really started to worry because their first attempt to silence him (by putting him in jail) failed. There was now only one last final solution to silence him. His car was tampered with in 1993, causing it to crash and kill him. Not many people know this but after the crash, the car was immediately taken away so it couldn`t be examined. His car had previously been tampered with before, and a year before Ian`s death, another skinhead band, called Violent Storm, were all killed in a car "accident," except for the lead singer. The money/gold masters of the universe had finally declared war on Ian Stuart and his followers after White Rider came out, in the same way as they declared war on the Kennedy family when JFK by passed the federal reserve and started printing his (America`s) own interest free money. Silencing Ian, by killing him, only made his message louder, and he`s now looked upon as a hero to many young people of today. His fan base grew rapidly after his death. Elvis Presly sold more records after he died, so did ac/dc after Bon Scott`s tragic death. My favorite song on this album is "Strikeforce." There`s even a stirring ballad on this album called "The Snow Fell," which tells about another side to world war 2. All in all this is one fantastic album. The band were at their peak when this album came out.
