Take the fight to Magneto and his cronies as you battle your way through hundreds of Sentinels and classic supervillains such as Pyro, Juggernaut, and Mystique. A faithful reproduction of the original arcade hit, this Android version of X-Men merges the classic gameplay of the original with clean new visuals and wi-fi multiplayer support.

x-men
Gameplay

X-Men is a side-scrolling action game with simple, easy-to-learn controls. The three buttons at the bottom right corner of the screen allow your character to jump, punch, and unleash a devastating mutant power attack. Be careful, though--your mutant power can be used to clear whole swarms of enemies, but using it will drain a portion of your health or consume a Mutant Power Orb.

New additions to the original arcade game include the ability to change difficulties and select a starting level. You may choose to start from any level you have already unlocked while playing through the game. Select one of six different X-Men superheroes to begin your adventure--play solo, or host a multiplayer game and invite up to three other players to join the fight.

x-men
Six different characters.

Key Features
  • Play as classic X-Men characters: Cyclops, Colossus, Wolverine, Storm, Nightcrawler, and Dazzler
  • Take down Magneto and his army of supervillains: Pyro, The Blob, Wendigo, Nimrod, The White Queen, Juggernaut, and Mystique
  • Experience the classic side-scrolling gameplay of the original, complete with spectacular mutant powers
  • Fight your way through cities, jungles, caves, and other locales
  • Climb to the top of the leaderboards with Local, Friends, and Global high score rankings
  • Unlock awards for completing special objectives in-game
  • Play over wi-fi with four-person multiplayer support
Reviews for X-Men
"For nostalgic comics fans or people that hung out in arcades during the early 90's, this game will be a worthwhile addition to their Android phone. Frankly, it's a perfect port of a game that was lauded as great."
    -- Android Police
"This is an extremely faithful port of the arcade game, save for a few nice updates such as a level select, "awards" to unlock, leader boards, OpenFeint integration, and 4-player multiplayer over wi-fi. Everything you loved about the classic, plus some nice, new additions to make it fun for a whole new generation of X-Men fans."

5.0 out of 5 stars Works great on my Kindle Fire December 2, 2012

***Update 3/9/2013***

OK let me clarify something since I seem to be getting several downvotes here. The controls for this game ARE LIKE THE ORIGINAL. It was ALWAYS poorly made, this is a very very very old arcade game, the controls are the same as the old Simpsons arcade game. Sometimes there is a delay between when you press up and how your character moves, but again, this was very much like the original. I'm not saying the game is amazing for newcomers looking for a great up-to-date video game. There are far better out there. This is specifically good for those who played the original for hours and hours of their childhood. If you're looking for perfectly smooth gameplay with amazing graphics and responsive controls, you shouldn't be looking at a game that was released over two decades ago. Yes, it's over twenty years old and the developer did not update the game, it's merely as it was, so take it or leave it. The controls are pretty big, but don't expect them to be better than the original game was.

***Original Review***

This was always one of my favorite games when I'd hit up the arcade as a kid, and its great to see it brought back. For a dollar this is a great purchase, and I think any control issues people had before have been addressed, the pad is pretty big (keep in mind this is a very old joystick game, so the controls were never advanced or that great), and work like at least a dozen other games I have (movement is a faux touch d-pad on the left, and attacks are touch buttons on the right of the screen). The only thing negative I can say is the graphics look a little fuzzy; I know the graphics would be terrible compared to today's standards, but I don't remember it being so fuzzy.

So if you're a fan of cheesy old arcade games, and especially if you love Marvel, this is well worth the cost.

2.0 out of 5 stars Fun game, but controls make it unplayable June 21, 2011
Bought this game and ended up returning it. I figured I'd say that from the start.

I loved the original arcade game and seeing this one on the market made me want to bum quarters off my mom again. Going through the initial screens brought back tons of memories. I picked Wolverine and got ready to kick some serious butt. That was where the problems came in. Controls were horrid. The action buttons work as expected, but the control pad does not. You can expect to be able to punch, kick, jump and use a special attack without any issues. Don't expect to be able to do things like walk or turn around though. If someone comes up on you from behind, you're gonna get punched a couple of times before you can figure out how to turn around. Once you do successfully clear out your 2-3 enemies, you'll have to walk to the next screen. Good luck doing that.

The problem is that the control pad is about the size of a half dollar (on my 7" tablet). If you move your finger outside of that circle, it stops responding. There is no visual or haptic feedback to indicate you're close to the boundary so you have to watch your finger as it's very easy to move just a tad out of the half dollar circle.

If you enjoy watching your immobile character get the back of his head slapped several times before you can turn around to deal with the threat, buy this game. The graphics are great. The sound is great. The levels are everything you remember. Two stars for all of that and the nostalgia factor. I take away three stars for the fact that the controls make the game completely unplayable.

2.0 out of 5 stars Slideshow on HTZ Rezound May 6, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase
I loved this arcade game back in the day.
I was excited to play this on my new phone - an HTZ Rezound. I bought this phone because it has a Snapdragon 3 processor and 1GB of RAM. Fairly high-end for a smartphone.
However, this game was a slideshow even after I killed every non-essential process on the phone. I tried moving the program to phone storage ("Move to phone") instead of the SD Card. It was a little faster, but still unplayable. You might want to try moving it to phone memory if it is just a little slow on your phone.

Perhaps it will play better on a tablet or Snapdragon 4. But for now, I had to uninstall. Maybe it will be playable on my next phone upgrade 2 years from now...

Lastly, I agree with other reviewers - the game would be greatly improved by customizable controls.

I like the game. I even like the controls, but maybe that's because I have small fingers and the small d-pad doesn't bother me. Read more

What an outstanding game from the 1990s. Outstanding that they made this game for my Kindle. They never made this on a home console. Perfect!

Looks and plays just like the arcade game, only with a touchscreen. Takes some getting used to, especially when attacking, but it looks good and is just as fun as I remember. Read more

Description did not explain it in detail enough. Should have said it would cost more to get more vs get this free and only have a way to buy the real stuffl.

3.0 out of 5 stars Blast from the (Arcade) Past!
It's definitely worth the 99 cents, but the controls (especially) the 'joystick' are frustratingly imprecise. Haven't tried the multiplayer option yet.
