Perfect Chew Toy!,
By Katie "book worm" (PA , USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Kong Small Puppy Toy (Misc.)
We recently adopted 3 wonderful, adorable pups - 2 of whom are still in their "chewing stage". Based on the recommendation of friends, we decided to give the "Kong" a try - and it's awesome!
"Kongs" are made to be extremely strong, so they don't fall apart when the little ones chew on them for hours (or even when our big guy decides to have a little chewing action on it himself). We've found that our dogs love them as is, but they REALLY get into it when we insert a treat or some of the "Kong" vitamin-enriched tasty paste into the open cavity. They'll spend lots of time and energy attempting to get the treat out (which is unlikely) &/or enjoying the "tasty paste". Overall, we found this to be a great toy for our "little ones" - it provides them with something that they're allowed to chew & that I as a "puppy parent" don't have to worry about falling apart due to long bouts of gnawing. Our dogs give the "Kong" a "2 paws up"!!!

Great Puppy Toy,
By
This review is from: Kong Small Puppy Toy (Misc.)
I have purchased this toy for two puppies in the past three years. It is excellent to use with crate training. I put the treats in only when they are to go into their crate and they are happy to be in there. It has been the favorite toy for both my Yorkie and my new puppy, a Cairn Terrier. They love time in the crate with this and will grab it out of their crate to play with it around the house.

Kongs are overrated, says puppy...,

Frankly I don't understand the hype about these toys. I get that they're practically indestructible & you can put stuff inside them. But my puppy has shown no interest in this thing at all even though he loves chewing on practically everything. We tried putting stuff inside, and he successfully licked it out in about 5 minutes, but no chewing occurred. This & the nylabone seem like things humans want their dogs to like more than things dogs actually DO like. oh well.
FYI: this puppy version is significantly softer than the adult version so probably better to stick with this for a puppy. (still seems pretty indestructible)

My little labradoodle puppy which is a labrador reteriever and a poodle.she is quite happy with it. so I got another one of those and she loved it so much she was about to explode!!! And when I tried another brand of toy she played with it every day for only 1 hour and 15 minutes. But with this toy she played with it 24 hours a day!!! And sometimes I even hear her playing with it at night in her cage!
so try it don't miss it!!

Good for puppies if they have the patience,
By Reb (Portland, OR) - See all my reviews

Our dog never really got into chewing the Kong, she would chew enough to get the treat out and whatever she couldn't reach would stay in. Some dogs just don't get into chewing the Kong. I also think younger dogs don't have the patience to really work a Kong, so make it as easy as possible to get the treat so they don't get frustrated. The Kong eventually cracked and tore around the opening so I threw it away, but it lasted a good 5 months as she grew from 5 lbs to 16 lbs. I did get a medium size, but it developed a weird, tacky sticky texture, like rubber bands when they get old, so I threw it away.

When I bought this for my eight week Golden puppy he really liked it. It didn't last him to long because it got to small for him really quick. It kept him entertained well.

We just started puppy school and the trainer said that we should give all our puppy's meals in a kong or puzzle toy to keep them more occupied while they get their meal. It's amazing how well it works! It makes her meal span out for about 45 minutes, instead of chowing down and then running around and getting everything. Right now we have 6 Kongs packed up and ready to go- 2 mini, 2 medium, and 3 large- depending on what she gets it for (meals, treats, alone time, etc.). I put a treat all the way in the bottom and then kibble to the opening and then close it with a little all natural peanut butter and then put them in the freezer. I recommend this to whoever has a puppy who is starting to get into everything and want to keep them occupied for awhile- stuffing them can be a project, but it's definitely worth the piece of mind.

Kong makes the longest lasting dog toys,
This review is from: Kong Small Puppy Toy (Misc.)
Kong makes the best products for dogs. When our Doberman was small, the only toy should didn't eventually destroy was her teal puppy Kong. As she has gotten bigger, every toy we have tried out that was not made by Kong was destroyed almost immediately. She is now 80 pounds and still enjoys her puppy Kong. No matter how hard she chews or pulls at this toy, she hasn't been able to destroy it.

My puppy loves it!,
By
This review is from: Kong Small Puppy Toy (Misc.)
My puppy LOVES his puppy Kong. Be warned though you will need to watch these types of Kong as your dog gets older to make sure their jaws aren't strong enough to chew them apart. They are made to be a bit "softer" so that puppies have an easier time to chew on it. This keeps my puppr busy for some time when I am gone at work AND he loves playing with the kong when it is empty now.
Note: Most puppies will not automatically start chewing on a Kong. you have to use things to make him want to chew on it. Some people use the "easy cheese" Kong spray can. It works for some dogs, doesn't work for others. Some people use peanut butter with kibble. This can do the trick but remember peanut butter is fattening and not really nutrious for your puppy. I, personally, will use part of my puppies kibble (sometimes other treats)and then canned wet food for dogs. I mix it and then put it in the freezer overnight. He loves it and it keeps him busy a lot longer than smearing wet food or peanutbutter in it.

Hours of Golden Entertainment :),
This review is from: Kong Large Puppy Toy (Misc.)
Had this for our Golden Retriever Puppy. He spent hours (over his months of growing), chewing on it. We never used any of the products that were sold to place inside of it. Like the previous reviewer, we chose to use our own "treats". His favorite was natural peanut butter - it was never messy from what I remember (as he spent plenty of time in the house with it). I'm pretty certain he eventually buried it in the yard when he decided he was a "big boy"; he likes to bury things & I haven't seen it in several years! It was also one of the only toy things he could never destroy. We have NEVER had any problems with him chewing on anything of ours either, which is nice! He still has adult Kong items now & another brand (& tennis balls, although he pops those like childs-play!). Baby Kong filled with some natural PB was great for us when we had people over and needed to keep him occupied :)
