4.0 out of 5 stars Dog *Loves* It - but it is NOT a chew toy
My female pit mix loves this toy. She carries it around, shakes it, chews it, and just adores it. However, when I got it I knew right away that I could not leave her alone with it. If she ever sits down to go to town on it, it probably won't last more than a couple of minutes. Due to this, I only let her play with it for 5-10 minutes at a time and only supervised. If I...

1.0 out of 5 stars NOT KONG STRONG BY A LONG SHOT, December 27, 2009
This review is from: Kong Wubba Dog Toy, Colors Vary (Misc.)
Our son is a vet tech in a 24 hour emergency clinic, he works primarily in surgery and ICU. If you heard the cases and saw the photos of pieces of dog toys that can be easily swallowed during what we think is normal play or chew time you would think carefully about the toys you buy for your dogs. Dogs have much more powerful jaws and teeth than we seem to think. Even my Shetland Sheepdog went through this wubba toy in less than an hour just chewing on it. My Golden swallowed a bit of chewed wubba and after 2 weeks of being a very sick dog and $2400 in vet bills later he finally passed the "slow moving foriegn mass" that almost killed him. It amazes me how flimsey and not at all safe most dog toys are. Even tennis balls that we all think are great dog toys, my son has removed wads of the fuzzy coating from stomachs and intestines in emergency surgeries, the greenies that are suppose to be good for their dental health, turn to rubbery blobs that won't pass through their intestines and squeekers can cause more problems than you might think. Not everything your dog swallows will end up on the lawn, things lodge, imbed themselves or puncture stomaches and intestines. Be careful in choosing dog toys, you wouldn't buy a toy for your child that could be swallowed, take the same care for your dogs remembering that a dog can turn something into pieces so easily. Vet care is expensive even for healthy pets who are only going in for regular preventative care, the medical care there is the same technology to care for us humans which is why it costs just as much as it would for you and I to get a piece of plastic or rubber or a metal squeeker surgically removed from where it imbedded in our gut. I was silly enough to think that the Kong name meant this toy was safe. It is not safe, it should not be on the market.

3.0 out of 5 stars For Supervised Play Only, May 13, 2009

I bought one of these for my St. Bernard, and failed to heed the "Supervised Play Only" warning on the label, 2 hrs later the toy was in tatters. These toys obviously aren't meant to be durable enough for long term chewing, but even the shreds of this toy are by far my dog's favorite toys.

Buy this toy and play _with_ your dog, but take it away when play time is over

3.0 out of 5 stars Not Extremely Durable, December 5, 2007
By
I just bought a Wubba for my 9-month old Dobie mix last night, and she loves it...she played with it for two hours straight. However, she already ate through the outer fabric on top (I can see the green ball inside) and starting eating the fringes. So, I'm going to have to throw it away tonight. It's too bad that the material isn't more durable. I would highly recommend this toy ONLY for dogs that don't typically destroy their toys and like to chew and eat non-food items.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dog *Loves* It - but it is NOT a chew toy, April 6, 2009

My female pit mix loves this toy. She carries it around, shakes it, chews it, and just adores it. However, when I got it I knew right away that I could not leave her alone with it. If she ever sits down to go to town on it, it probably won't last more than a couple of minutes. Due to this, I only let her play with it for 5-10 minutes at a time and only supervised. If I see her settling down for a good chew, I take it away (or throw it to get her moving again). That said - this is a great, stimulating toy. She loves to drag it by the 'legs', shake it around, make it squeak - everything! The different chew 'zones' - the tennis ball top versus the squeaky middle - keep her entertained. The cloth is quite durable and unless she *really* wants to get through it, I think it will hold up well.

This is a great toy - but be aware of your dog's tendencies and take them into account. If my girl ever does destroy it, I'll definitely get another.

1.0 out of 5 stars Wubbas need Wuv - NOT Chewing, June 7, 2007
By
This was not for a dog that wants to chew, and chew and chew....

Maybe one that wants to just take it to bed and wuv it.

I was disappointed and so was my dog. Well, maybe he wasn't. He did kill it...so he did do what nature intended him to do. But the toy didn't last long like I expected it to.

5.0 out of 5 stars A whole lot of fun, and a good toy too., November 15, 2009

Our new Aussie needed a special toy of his own so I got him a Wubba. Wubba was used strictly for supervised play per the packet instructions. In 3 months the middle squeaker ball had been removed and relegated to another game. Wubba was now Wubba-carcass, just as fun to wave about but far less fun to chase. Another 3 months and he had the upper ball out as well. Wubba-skin is still with us still being waved around the house, shaken and tossed. 6 months in the clutches of a 3YO Aussie is an eternity, I'm getting another.

I love Kong products, and my 3 1/2 month old Shepherd/Chow certainly LOVED this Wubba, but he ate through it in 48 hours, so I can't recommend it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Did not last a day!, January 4, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I ordered this as well as 2 other Kong toys for Christmas. This one did not last until noon Christmas Day. I did not leave it for Bentley to chew, but to play tug of war with. The fabric covering the ball was completely shredded and by the end of the day was ready for the garbage. While Kong is our favorite, this one is not one to buy. It is not a chew day or a play time. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS ONE

5.0 out of 5 stars We have a winner!, August 11, 2009
This review is from: Kong Wubba Dog Toy, Colors Vary (Misc.)
I guarantee, your dog will love this. I picked this up for our Border Collie/Lab mix, and it is his favorite toy. However, he is not a gnawer/shredder, and those stuffed toys with the squeakers inside will last for at least a month, or until stuffing is visible. If your dog is El Destructo, this is meant for supervised play only. My in-laws report that their dachshund loved hers to death within a day, which makes sense because she is a determined toy excavator. However, she is still obsessed with the remaining pieces. YMMV!

Our dog is more about the food and the love than playing with toys, but this always holds his interest. It's great for fetching, as well as catching in mid-air, and will also stand up to pretty determined tug o'war.

1.0 out of 5 stars The Toy is Not for the Aggressive Chewer, November 21, 2010
My 7 month old Rottie had the handles ripped on the first day. The rest was torn apart within a week. She did like the larger ball which she kept until bits started coming off; I then discarded. I took the smaller ball away from her because I think it could have gone down her throat!
