4.0 out of 5 stars Great value with few drawbacks, November 27, 2006
This review is from: Konica Minolta AF Zoom 75-300mm f/4.5-5.6 SLR Lens Maxxum SLR Cameras (Electronics)
I bought this lens for my Minolta Maxxum 5 SLR three years ago. I have taken it on trips and shot hundreds of photos with it and not had any regrets. It is not too heavy, it fits into a hip pack just right and the focal range is fantastic. Compared with lenses that costs hundreds of dollars more it is an incredible bargain. If you are just a point and shooter like me, and want life taking pix to be easy, then this is a great lens. I recently bought a K-M Maxxum 5 D-SLR (no longer made but still around if you look) and the 'A-mount' takes this lens just fine. I am looking forward to seeing how it performs on the new camera. About the only drawback with this lens I can find is that you want to shoot more pix!!

Why 4 Stars and not 5? The light weight comes at a cost in materials. It is mostly plastic and just not very solid feeling, albeit I have never worried about it and so far it has given me no reason to have.

UPDATE May 2009:
Well the lens is still going strong, but now I use it on a new Sony Alpha 300 DSLR and this is a great combination. I truly appreciate it for its light weight and find that the only thing I truly wish it had was a lower f-stop capability. Sony makes this same lens under their logo. Most reviews refer to this as a "Beer-can lens" for obvious reasons. I think it must be a Budweiser beer - not too pricey, and reasonably satisfying ...

I love this lens. I need it for my sons football games. I get to go on the field, so I need fantastic shots of him and his teammates. Also, it's a Minolta lens that fits on my Minolta camera.
