5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Little Lens!
I love this lens! Sure, as my first prime lens, it's been a bit tricky getting the angle of a picture that I want without the zoom function, and it still is taking some getting used to, but the advantages of this lens in razor-sharp clarity, faster shutter speeds, and incredible detail, especially without a flash. I was having some second thoughts about the Sony A300...

3.0 out of 5 stars autofocus?
Advertised as an autofocus. Product description indicates that this is a manual focus lens. Appears to be a very good and fast lense for this price even though it's probably a manual focus.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Little Lens!, July 13, 2010

I love this lens! Sure, as my first prime lens, it's been a bit tricky getting the angle of a picture that I want without the zoom function, and it still is taking some getting used to, but the advantages of this lens in razor-sharp clarity, faster shutter speeds, and incredible detail, especially without a flash. I was having some second thoughts about the Sony A300 that I purchased a year ago, and was thinking that I needed to move on to a better cammera, but this lens has proven that the cammera has a LOT more to offer, and all I needed was a faster, better lens than the standard 18-70 ;ens that it came with. I highly recommend to anyone who has bought a Sony SLR, and is getting sick of pictures still looking a bit amateur-ish... A must have!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Super Lens at a Super Price, March 28, 2008
This review is from: Konica Minolta Autofocus 50mm f/1.7 Lens for Maxxum SLR Cameras (Electronics)
This little 50mm f1.7 lens is very good for the price it's sold at. Granted, you get what you pay for, but what you get is a very fast lens w/ good bokeh. The built-in hood is a joke and there's no f-scale, but a good shootist can still get very memorable photos with this lens. If these items are a nuisance, then go get a good B&W metal hood and one of their excellent slim line UV haze filters and learn to judge distance. It's a good portrait lens on the 7D. BTW, to those who don't know, this lens is an auto-focus lens, hence MAXXUM. Maxxum means auto-focus. Getting this lens won't disappoint you.

5.0 out of 5 stars A gem in a small price, October 4, 2005
This review is from: Konica Minolta Autofocus 50mm f/1.7 Lens for Maxxum SLR Cameras (Electronics)
I own a former version of this lens. It is an autofocus lens and it can be used in manual focus mode. This one has a better grip on the focusing ring. This lens is built robust and the results are excellent. I keep it with me in case of serious sharpness is needed or there is not enough light to handhold.

Stopping down a few stops will give better results. I don't have the 1.4 version but the results are said to be the same after f:2.8.

Don't believe people when they say that cheap lens are no good. If they do, they are clearly telling you a lie.
i love this lens! i have it for almost one year now and i am able to shoot kids portraits for family and friends. so incredibly sharp! sure light and maybe not as sturdy but it has survived me. i can recommend this lens to anybody who needs a 50 mm lens! my dad bought the more expensive one but now wants this one.
you can get this lens on Ebay from $50-$80USD, awesome portrait lens.

Super sharp, great portraits, fast, super cheap.
LOVE IT!

I purchased this item used (only type available) and was very pleased with the results. Great for portraits and low light photography esp since it goes to f1.7 wide open. The size is incredibly small which nicely complements my Sony a35 purchase. Love this combination. Highly recommend this lens.

The best thing about it is the price. I paid just over $75/used copy on amazon.com and for that price you get a very good lens BUT... although it's very sharp in the center throughout the range (f/1.7 to f/8), it did have very soft corner results from about f/1.7 to around f/2.8. I think the lens tack sharp "hot spot" range is at f/5.6 to f/8 ...giving that better balance of center and corner sharpness. I would say it's not really a "great" low light lens if you're looking for overall sharpness near the wide open range but good for portrait photography and for those on a budget. For me, it just leaves me feeling that I could just save the money for a more expensive, newer and better lens.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Lens, August 28, 2011

This review is from: Konica Minolta Autofocus 50mm f/1.7 Lens for Maxxum SLR Cameras (Electronics)
I've been using this lens for the past 6 or 7 moths. What can I say except BEST PHOTOS OF MY LIFE. As far as feelings are concerned, I felt that I was missing something before I acquired this lens. I had a Sony camera and the 18-200mm lens. I could take sharp pictures of buildings, landscapes, etc., but I could not take good photos of people. This lens, does exactly what I need it to. That is, capture great candids of my friends. For a hobbyist on a budget, this lens satisfied my needs without seriously wounding my pocket. AF speed, sharpness, size and weight are all satisfactory. I seldom miss a shot with this lens, although I am sure there are faster powerhouse lenses out there. This lens is a great addition to my camera bag, and anyone who wants a good low light lens, or is interested in portraiture (digital or film) should have this lens.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great portrait/low light lens for Sony SLT, June 24, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Konica Minolta Autofocus 50mm f/1.7 Lens for Maxxum SLR Cameras (Electronics)
I recently bought a Sony SLT A33 camera and the kit lens works well in most situations. However, its minimum aperture of f5.6 at the 55mm focal length makes low light and portrait photography difficult without a tripod. I also wanted something that would give me a shallower depth of field. This lens delivers great results and at a fraction of the cost of a brand new lens. The focal length is great for portraits and other close up work. The AF works smoothly and quickly. It even helps to make my already light A33 super easy to carry around and shoot one handed. I will definitely consider another Konica Minolta Maxxum lens if I ever need another lens for my camera.
