Not much luck with ours,
By Alonzo (Kansas City, MO USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Konica Minolta Magicolor 2530 Dl Color Laser (Office Product)
We haven't had much luck with ours.
When it works it works very nicely. Black text pages are terrific, and come roaring out of the machine at a good clip. Color pages are lively -- print photos on first-class paper and it's almost like looking at pages from magazines. The main trouble is, the machine behaves properly only about half the time we try to use it. Turn it on and we're as likely to get an "Error" light as a "Ready" light. We've spent hours on the phone with Konica-Minolta help -- they've been very nice and helpful, but I'd rather not have to be bothering them in the first place, you know what I mean? We're forever having to open the thing up and use a pencil eraser to get rid of toner dust, or jiggle the toner cartridges, or pull out jammed paper. The machine seems very sensitive to humidity -- overcast and rainy days mean lots of printing problems. And, as many others have pointed out, this is one loud machine. When it grinds into action it'll make you jump out of your chair. When it's in "rest" mode ... Well, about every ten minutes or so it grinds into action for 30 seconds, maybe. You'll think construction has started up next door. Then it goes back into quiet-sleep mode. I loved the idea of an affordable color printer, and it was nice to see so many having good experiences with this one. But our experience hasn't been happy, and I wouldn't buy it again. 'Way too much involvement with the guts of the machine. I really don't want to have anything to do with a printer more than switching it on and off, and once in a while giving it some new ink or toner. Owning this thing has been an education in printer technology -- and it's an education I had no desire to be subjected to.

Installing this printer on my home network of Macs and PCs (both wired and wireless) was actually a pleasure! Kudos to the software developers at Konica Minolta for making drivers and installers that work perfectly and ship with the product! We were tired of ink jet printers always running out of ink, drying out, printing streaky and generally being useless whenever we needed them. We've only owned this printer a month but so far it is the perfect replacement printer for an inkjet. It is a four-pass printer so it is slower than one-pass versions but it still beats any ink jet I've ever owned. It is fast for just black and white. It is also has a nice small footprint (for a color laser). The only cons are it comes with smaller starter cartridges (but that's one reason the price is so low), and replacements are expensive, and it prints very dark on the Mac so I always use the quartz filter to lighten the output for photos.

I never had or used a laser printer before buying this Magicolor 2530 Dl Color Laser printer. By now I have had it a little more then a month. It is so much better then any of the three HP inkjet printers I have owned it makes me question my past judgement. Because of never working with terms like 'toner' or warm-up, I called the tech phone number, and boy' are they super friendly and helpful. In no time they had me printing bright true-to-color photos, which is what I bought it for in the first place. The printer works best using LASER paper, although when my inkjet paper was used,it pleased me too. The only downside comments I have are the minute or so wait time for the printer to warm up and orient itself, and it is somewhat noisy ...but am I glad I have it!

Great printer for the money!,

This printer has turned out to be a great option for our company! Networking is simple and it works flawlessly for our employees. The only negative is that it is very slow but we were aware of that issue prior to purchase. If you are looking for a good quality networked color laser printer for not alot of money, I highly recommend this device.
If you are planning on using it heavily to print multiple copies of color documents, I would recommend stepping up to a model that boasts better speed.

Very nice printer for the money,
This review is from: Konica Minolta Magicolor 2530 Dl Color Laser (Office Product)
I was amazed to find this printer at Sam's Club for about the same price as a "really good" inkjet (as if they actually exist). I am very happy with the Magicolor. It is a bit loud and slow, but prints very nicely. The toner should last at least 3 times as long as inkjet cartridges, so that evens out the price of replacing the toner. For the budget minded who are sick of inkjets (and who isn't), this is a good option.

2 Broken Printers,
This review is from: Konica Minolta Magicolor 2530 Dl Color Laser (Office Product)
After reading raving professional reviews, I purchased a Magicolor 2530DL for home use. The printer only works with 20 lb. paper; it leaves white vertical streaks on everything but the test page; and now says "media jam fuser" and "prints" blank paper. I called tech support so many times, that they finally sent me a replacement Magicolor 2530DL printer. They didn't send me all of the information to send the first one back. So, now I have two. Neither of the printers work. I'm looking for a good place to get them repaired. Professional tech reviewers need to pay attention to how long the items work well.

Good when it works, but has major design flaw,
This review is from: Konica Minolta Magicolor 2530 Dl Color Laser (Office Product)
This is my second Konica Minolta Magicolor laser printer. The speed and print quality are great. It has a long warm up time and is noisy, which could be a problem for a home office. Those are minor problems though. The cost of toner cartridges is eye-watering, more than the replacement cost of the printer, and using cheaper non-manufacturer refils is still not cheap. I've lived with the cost in retrun for quick, clear, color printing.
The big problem which has finally outweighed all the upside for me, and means I'm looking for a replacement, despite the enormous cost of having recently replaced all toners, is an infuriating little design flaw. Somewhere in the bottom of the innards, underneath the toner carousel, is a little sensor which checks whether the toner cartrideges are in place. If this is obscured in some way, intense peering at the tiny message screen reveals that the printer believes the toner cartridges are not installed, and it won't operate. The toner cartridges are filled with toner powder and sometimes, if the printer gets shocked or shaken, say by a paper jam, toner powder falls out of the cartridges, into the area underneath, where it sometimes blocks the little sensor and the printer stops working. To fix this you just have to clean the dust off the sensor.... except in order to access the space where the sensor and the dust live, you have to remove the toner cartridges, there is no other way. And there is no designed-in means of doing this, you have to graunch the carousel around by hand, making a hideous gear-grinding noise, and repeatedly catching fingers as it snaps around, there is no other way. Then you have to try to clean out the fiddly and still hard-to-access space underneath the carousel, I've found a keyboard cleaning attachment for the vacuum cleaner can help. Then, to test whether you've got the key bit of dust off the crucial sensor you have to... put all the cartridges back in, trying not to jolt them and spill more powder as you force the carousel round to allow the next one to be slotted into place. If the error message still appears then you just have to do the whole thing again. Of course, this tends to happen when you're trying to do a long, time-critical print run, and I've had enough of working through this process in the small hours as I desperately try to get a job fininshed. So, great while it works, appart from the cost of the toner, but a nightmare when it goes wrong. I won't be buying this brand again.

This is my second Konica-Minolta printer of this class. My first was a magicolor 2400W; this one a 2530 DL.
The first one had excellent print output, but some jamming problems. When the unit consistently started smelling like it was burning (after about two years) we decided to replace it. We bought a 2530 DL because we had been so impressed with the print quality, plus we still had consumables from the first printer that were compatible with the new one. New one worked like a champ for a year and a half--fairly light household use. Occasional misfeeds. Misfeeds have become more frequent over the past few months, and today it won't print a single page without twisting it into a contorted, smeared mess in a media jam. We did some feeling around where the jam was occurring. The surface of the roller unit in the fuser is all rugged and shredded. We are now trying set up an open fuser transplant operation between the two printers, which, if successful, will lead to the creation of one viable printer. In short, the print quality on this printer is stellar. I absolutely love it. But you're taking your chances on how long it will keep working. Since we have an old model to cannibalize parts from, we will try to keep this Konica-Minolta alive for a while. However it is the last Konica-Minolta that I will buy. The refill toner cartridges are pretty darn expensive, too--in case you didn't know. However after this I will revert to the standard old geek wisdom of "in laser printers always buy a Canon print engine." In the past this has meant "buy a Canon or an HP laser printer." That's because at least when I was young, HP used Canon print engines. I still have an HP Laserjet 3200 from almost a decade ago. It still plugs along and it has never created any drama in my life. Unlike this printer, which has failed two days before I need to produce sixteen affidavits for a court case. Unfortunately the HP is not a color laser. I'll be shopping around for a Canon or HP color laser now. No more drama in my life.

A good printer for home use.,

This review is based upon the previous generation printer (2430 DL).
This printer has been a solid performer for nearly two years. It isn't the fastest color laser printer but for the price you can't beat it. Works great on both Macs and PCs. The only problem is the output tray. The flimsy piece of plastic breaks far too easily. Your printer will still work, but paper will fall to the floor.

this was a used product that came from a private seller. It was not packed correctly and was broken. I contacted the seller via e-mail and told him this... he asked me to wait to send it back to him after he sent me a shipping label. This was 2 weeks ago. I have continued to try to reach him and he has not responded. I asked for a full refund of the product and shipping cost and I have not heard a peep. The printer is useless to either him or me because the packing was so poorly done. the box it was shipped in was way bigger than it needed to be and there were no packing materials inside the box... so the printer was floating around in the box.. i'm surprised it wasn't in 50 pieces. Is there anyone at Amazon that can get this seller to contact me and send the shipping label and refund me in full???
I think that it should be easier to find a phone number and name and address of seller so I could call him. |
