This review is from: magicolor 1680MF Multifunction Printer (Personal Computers)
This is my second, more advanced model of this printer. I loved the first one based on the exceptional, US-based telephone customer service that always answer quickly and are knowledgeable (not reading from a script) about their printers.
This printer puts out perfect, color pages and would recommend it to anyone. It is quick, has many great features, compact for a 4-function and one of the best features is that it shows how much toner is left rather than left to quessing and replacing toner before it is actually out.

Konica Minolta has great service,
This review is from: magicolor 1680MF Multifunction Printer (Personal Computers)
I bought this printer used. When it was shipped the printer failed to work. The seller would not refund or take the printer back, so I called konica. They sent me a brand new printer even knowing that I bought it used. They honored their warranty. And the new printer they sent is working great. I would recommend this printer and this company to anyone.

I bought this for my sister, who was going away to college. I wanted her to have a color laser printer that could copy and scan, so that she wouldn't run out of ink all the time and so that she could print faster. She loves it and she's now been using it for 2 years.
It works well with Mac's (which is what my sister has) even though the driver is a bit difficult to install. It is a little heavy and not as compact as other cheaper printers, but even so it's worth it. It's a great printer. I should also mention that it was much cheaper when I bought it: $250 dollars. I noticed that they've raised the price significantly. For that reason I'm giving it 4 stars only.

Experienced Printer Evaluator's Opinion,
This review is from: magicolor 1680MF Multifunction Printer (Personal Computers)
For eight years across two companies, part of my responsibility has been evaluating and comparing small office printers. I have been impressed with Konica Minolta (and Okidata, which tend to be higher-end) for years.
Recently, I purchased this printer and not only do I love it, my wife refuses to use the 4 other printers in our house. It is fast, prints great quality, was easy to set up, and is extremely reliable. For the price point (at least when I bought it 6 months or so ago) it was the best combination of cost, features, and quality on the market. I'm glad I bought the thing and only stopped to write a review when I logged in to Amazon to buy some toner to replace all that my wife has used (it only comes with "starter" toner, which is standard in the industry.

Great Hardware, Terrible Software,
By Teratech (Austin, Texas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: magicolor 1680MF Multifunction Printer (Personal Computers)
The documentation issue has to do with the lack of a clear explanation of what steps needed to be performed in order to successfully load the scanner software. I spent a fair amount of time trying to figure out what was actually required to get the scanner to function. I did not find the part in the documentation that clearly explained that both drivers and application software needed to be installed for the scanner to function. When I loaded the original software to drive the printer, I assumed that scanner application software was also loaded.
By far, the most painful part of using the CD's that came with the 1680MF was that when I needed to change from one disk to the next I would open the drawer on the CD player, my Windows XP would crash with the blue screen of death. It did this several times. All three disks exhibited this issue. In the five years that I have used this computer I have now, opening the CD player drawer has never crashed my system. When using the documentation disk, I could access any of the documents the first time right after I installed the CD into he driver. After opening any document then closing it, I could not open the installation Guide or the Reference Guide. Trying to open these documents would result in getting the message that I need to install Adobe Acrobat to view these documents. When using the Applications CD to install the scanner software I would insert the disk in the CD driver. When the GUI appeared, I would select Paper Port à then Install. I would receive a system message that said, "ERROR File not found: AutoRun.ini". I was able to get this application to install by using Windows Explorer to dig down into the files and manually invoke the Auto.ini file. Many of your customers do not have this level of skill and therefore would not get the scanner application installed. |
