5.0 out of 5 stars This was a surprisingly good novel., January 20, 2002

Konrad is an excellent testament to the adage 'don't judge a book by it's cover (or it's length)'. The Warhammer logo was an immediate turn-off and had it not been for someone's favoured recommendation, I almost certainly would have passed it over. While it had the charm of a fairy-tale it is extremely grim from beginning to end, but in the best possible way. I especially enjoyed the description of the world's monsters- hordes of grey limbs, beaks and claws; haunting. I'm strongly looking forward to the next two books in the series.

This book is is one of the best books ive ever read, and i read like 3 books a week, since like 5 years ago. This is awesome, i give it 5 stars heres why, the story makes you want to keep reading its clever, smart, and unique(star #1)
The main character (konrad) is a very interesting person hes always changing and learning things, also the other characters such as wolf(the mercenary) elyssa (his friend, and many others are very well drawn.(star #2)
The fighting is so very well narrarated its tells you every thing its graphic, gruesome, and very specific, if you like the lord of the rings battles, like those from the movie or book, youll love the ones in this book(star #3)
Damn it im getting tired of typing, just get the damn book trust me, you wont regret it, and get 'Shadowbreed' and 'Warhammer' the other 2 books in the trilogy, both being equally as good as konrad, youll love the storys twists and turns, the fighting, the everything, ....

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Surprise!!!, August 24, 2009
Chance is what made ths book available to me; a store manager threw it in the box after I made a big miniature figs purchase. Was in the shelf for 5+ years, and a week ago I was having a one day trip with 4-5 hours airport time involved. The book was by my studio door in top of a box of books ready to be given away, so I grabbed it as I walked by. I read half the book that day, and the next day I finished it.

This book is good, not the best fantasy novel, but nicely readable. I also recommend it to people that is into Warhammer as few things in the book are a lot more easy to follow and understand.

All in all, a good novel. Narration and descriptions are great and the plot keeps you wandering.

I also may criticize that Konrad is too much drawn by fate, but is the book style, as much as Frodo is drawn by fate in LOTR. In the start of the 2nd book (included at the end of the first one), Konrad takes destiny in his hands, revealing against what was imposed on him, so I have to keep reading the 2nd novel to see what is coming on.

SPOILER --- BEWARE
My criticism. For one the book resembles to me a lot to LOTR first book. Despite the differences, Konrad is a poor guy, drawn off his boring life by fate and having to take into quests where he had little to no choices to make (in part due to his personality, same as happens with Frodo). And the end of this 1st book is almost identical to that of LOTR 1st book; a Dwarf cavern where a big treasure is supposed to be but instead has been overwhelmed by Goblins and there is a big fight involving a Dwarf and lots of arrow shooting...
