Best Optics Value, Perfect High Power Rifle Scope/Hunting,

This review is from: Konus 7120 20x-60x80mm Spotting Scope with Tripod And Case (Sports)
I agree with nearly everything on the other reviews, except that the bipod and carrying case are what I would expect for this price. You are paying for the optics, and at a very low price for their performance. With a quick test I found I can read 1" lettering at 650 yards printed on people's shirts (very clearly), ranged with a Bushnell ARC 1200 rangefinder (another item I reviewed). I will be doing a full write-up on the optics performance, but you will not find a better scope for this price. It outperformed some of Nikon's $1200 scopes by 'taste test'; hard to believe, but the only one that outperforms it is a Swarovski ($2500). Check out the write-up at [...] where Jim Owens compares it side by side to a $900 Kowa. It is comparable in 10/11 of his tests.
The eyepiece has a fairly wide field of view, especially compared to scopes in this price range. That is the place where the Kowa has an advantage. That said, the Kowa uses a fixed objective (no zoom). I find for highpower shooting (NRA across the course; 200yd-600yd and 1000yd Palma) you can get a benefit out of the variable power (IF you have excellent optics; in this case, the 80mm Konus works very well). For hunting the variable power is necessary for a lot of reasons. It also works well for a crude, but enjoyable telescope for astronomy. At 60x you can see quite a bit of detail on the moon. I haven't had a chance to check out deep sky objects yet, but for what it is designed to do, it is an unmatched, low cost scope with impressive optics. One cool feature is the mini aiming sight on the side of the body, the rotatable band for turning the eyepiece how you need it, and the extendable sunshade. The focus knob is very fine, so you have plenty of adjustment to fine tune an image in focus. For the complaints about the tripod, come on, you paid for the optics, not the tripod. And the case is basic; like any good optics, you don't want to drop them no matter what case they are in. I bought Jim Owens' Scope Stand for highpower shooting, and it is pretty stable, and much lower than competitors' prices for similar class scope stands like Ewing (~1/2 price). I may replace the case later, but I take extra caution not to drop my optics, my rifle, or my telescope. My review score is for the scope and its excellent quality and value. The tripod and case are consolation prizes, and they still work to get you started.

This is an unbelievable value. This scope is in the same league as the Kowa 821 series scopes for 1/5th the price. I am very pleased with the scope. The only drawbacks are the tripod and case, you will have to get a much better tripod and a case to carry the scope in.

Konus 7120 20x-60x80mm Spotting Scope with Tripod And Case,

The Konus 7120 20x-60x80mm Spotting Scope: Great clean crisp view at all the power setting.
Tripod: good tripod for spotting and window attachment works great. Case: wouldn't want to drop the case and scope. Not a lot of padding and would not trust it to protect the scope. All in all the best product for the price range

Good Optics Poor Bipod,
I just purchased this spotting scope based on other reviews. I like the optics of the product but the tripod is next to worthless. The unit rocks in the tripod scope cradle and does not seat well. I will be looking to replace the tripod so factor this into the cost of the unit.
As I said the optics are very good. I have worked with the unit up to full magnification with no distortion across the glass.

Great Spotting Scope for the Money!,

I've been shooting for over 20 years and have had many spotting scopes. This one is among the best bang for the buck. The optics are clear and it is very durable.
The only that would make it better is a ranging reticle of some type.

This is my first spotting scope, and I do not think I could have made a better choice. The scope is easy to use, and the images are sharp and crystal clear. The "instructions" are limited and vague, but the basics are intuitive and I was viewing within minutes of opening the box.
The included tripod is fine for table mounted viewing. I have a spare full-sized camera tripod that I use for this scope. The video head on that tripod makes the scope easy to aim and track. I live on a saltwater canal and I'm fortunate to have ospreys, herons, egrets, bittens, ducks and others as well as terrestrial birds to observe, right in my backyard. The carrying case is adequate and it is a nice to have. I confess that I do not understand how to use the camera adapter, but I have not spent much time working it out. I would buy this scope again and I would recommend it to others.

The scope works great - but the tripod is useless. Plan on replacing the tripod immediately. However, as I said before - the scope is great!

I bought this scope based on the great reviews I read. I purchased this to spot holes in my targets at 200-300 yards. I am using a Leupold Vari-XIII 8.5-25x50mm scope on my rifle. My rifle scope is worlds clearer than this spotting scope. At the 60x setting it has barely more magnification than my 25 power rifle scope. The optics were extremely milky and at 45x-60x the scope was not clear enough to spot the holes in reactive targets at 180 yards. Maybe I got a bad one. I don't know. I found this scope to be useless for my needs. I returned it and am in the market for a higher end scope. The bottom line is don't expect a $1,000 quality scope for $200. For the money I guess it is good. Just my opinion.

Konua 7120 Spotting Scope,

Best spotting scope one could find for the money. Very clear all the way out to 600 to 1000 yds. I would highly recommend. The spotting scope tripod is better than rated by some useres, to do better you would have to spend some big bucks. If you don't like the tripod find a regular tripod at a garage sale like I did.
