3.0 out of 5 stars Hip Hop ...long, lonnng, looonnggg ago
Kool Moe Dee doesn't stand up to the late 1980s greats of the day like Rakim, KRS-One, Chuck D, Doug E. Fresh, Big Daddy Kane or LL Cool J, but he was part of an elite group of talented, creative MCs who kept it real.

I was never enough of a Kool Moe Dee fan (come on--when he came @ LL back in they day, how many of us were "really" ridin' wit him? LOL) to...

Someone below me needs to stop riding LL's jock like a school girl. These reviews are for Kool Moe Dee, not the LL fan club. But since you brought him up, I will say one thing. Kool Moe Dee is the one who stepped out of the rap game with dignity. LL these days is nothing less of a wack, sold out, bottom feeder who would probably stoop to anything to stay relevent and extend his career another few years. In comparison, Kool Moe Dee never wavered from his priniciples. And despite the hype machine surrounding Mr. Lady's Lover Cool James, I always thought KMD was better anyways. In fact, if you think "Mama Said Knock You Out" is better than "I Go To Work," you need to be slapped. The fraud-show should've been over a long time ago. Kool Moe didn't lose the battle. If they ever actually battled, LL would've gotten served hard. Add onto of that, Kool Moe is a top 5 GOAT MC, LL is not.

Back on topic, I don't own this CD, but I own all the albums the songs came off of. They are all classic material. Great, oldschool jams uncontaminated by blood-sucking A&Rs and silly, bandwagon trends. My favorite thing though has always been Kool Moe Dee's excelent delivery. I can't really think of anyone who flows thier voice with that amount of clarity, percision, and confidence. He never sacrificed this when he was spit-firing his rhymes at blinding speed or flowing more slowly. His MCing still stands out today among so many of the supposed premier MCs that came afterwards who mumbled their flows half-hazardly. Much can also be said for his funky lyrics and wit. This is hip hop that will stand the test of time. When people go back and really study the history of hip hop, he will have a sizeable entry. Hell, hes responsible for the first record credited as introducing technical rhymes, metaphors, and speedy delivery.

5.0 out of 5 stars You know it's funky., June 25, 2000

Kool Moe Dee was/is one of the most intelligent rappers of any generation. The beat and lyrics for "How ya like me now?" were some of the funkiest since James Brown. Also, Kool laid it down like it was supposed to be and took the game seriously. He just knew how to flow in a rapid fashion that you could understand. In other words, he wasn't just saying a lot of nonsense. Overall, Kool's beats and lyrics were just funky and make you want to get up and do some of that straight gangsta boogie back in the day dancing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Back To A Time When Rap Was About Art, June 23, 2004

Not about money, jewelry, sex and foul language. True, it has its place but it is all too common now. Plus, you can't understand half of what these new cats are saying. Kool Moe Dee is one of the first rappers I've ever liked. With singles such as "How You Like Me Now?", "Wild Wild West", "They Want Money" and his LL Cool J Diss rap "Let's Go."

On a side note, though there was real heat between LL and Kool Moe Dee, they didn't take it to the level that these knuckleheads of today seem too! They kept it on the records and about who was the best rapper, not about who had the most guns!

Anyway, if you want a good piece of hip-hop history, this is a good CD to get.

"I Go To Work" and "Wild Wild West" make this CD worth getting on it's own. However, only at a price point that is under $10.00. Couldn't find this CD on iTunes in Canada, so this was a good pick up.

4.0 out of 5 stars A.Wood you're sucker, July 3, 2006
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Kool Moe Dee - Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
How can Moe Dee deserve only 1 star? How can an old school's true pioneer be garbage? This album is very good, original and Kool Moe Dee's style is elegant but also cutting. Featuring stunning tracks like How Ya Like Me Now and the LL-destroying Let's Go this album is an essetial old school document.
God Made Me Funke, They Want Money, Do You Know What Time It Is?, I Go To Work and Wild Wild West are also very good tracks, the rest is a bit weaker. The only other thing you have to know is that A.Wood is a fake, he's a Busy Bee fan and since Moe Dee destroyed Busy Bee on a freestyle he rated this album and all the other moe dee's albums with one star. you don't believe me? check his reviews, he probabily doesn't even know what he's talkin about so don't consider his useless reviews. Instead listen to the album because Moe Dee is an original freestyle master.

Peace

Kool Moe Dee doesn't stand up to the late 1980s greats of the day like Rakim, KRS-One, Chuck D, Doug E. Fresh, Big Daddy Kane or LL Cool J, but he was part of an elite group of talented, creative MCs who kept it real.

I was never enough of a Kool Moe Dee fan (come on--when he came @ LL back in they day, how many of us were "really" ridin' wit him? LOL) to need to own any of his albums, but he was good at dropping a classic single from time-to-time.

I own this CD for four reasons: "I Go To Work," "Wild Wild West," "How Ya Like Me Now" and "They Want Money."

"I Go To Work" was the hype, high-energy dance track that always kept a party jumpin' when you put it on. It's still a banger if you ask me.

"Wild Wild West" was an elementary school favorite of mine ... another jam with it's own signature dance we did back in the day.

"How Ya Like Me Now" was a cold battle rap though by today's gun-totting, gangsta standards, I'm sure young hip hop heads today would laugh at it like a Mr. Rogers Neighborhood fairytale.

"They Want Money" was basically a Kanye West's "Gold Digga" for it's time ... another track for da fellas who knew da game when foul females were on da prowl.

This is probably a CD that can't and won't be appreciated by anyone born later than 1982 (just being real).

This is a collection of gems from hip hops golden age before it crossed over to mainstream and sold out.

4.0 out of 5 stars K.M.D. wasted his solo career tryin' to take out LL COOL J, November 26, 2004
By

What do I mean? Come on. Back with THE TREACHEROUS THREE sure they had beef with other equal MC's but the party never stopped when they rocked it. KOOL MOE DEE gave something to LL COOL J to get on his nerves "How Ya Like Me Now" (K.M.D. even got SPYDER-D on his 'spit list' with that one),LL answered back "Jack The Ripper",K.M.D. serves LL a hyped up jam but fell on "def" ears "Let's Go",LL could have stopped there but he shot back with a double punch "Mama Said Knock You Out","To Da Break Of Dawn" (which also disses M.C. HAMMER & ICE-T). Instead of taking defeat like a real player in the game,K.M.D. shoots LL with the yawning "Death Blow",LL finally got the picture, why bother anymore...LL won the battle and the war (and all you fans know it). Oh,sorry,LL did have to mention his champion status in one more diss against 'Moe Dee,Hammer & Ice-T's curls' in "I Shot Ya". I forgot 'bout that one.

Non-LL news on this CD,songs like "Go See The Doctor","Do You Know What Time It Is?","Wild,Wild West","They Want Money" and "God Made Me Funke" puts his lyricism in high gear. Also the songs against LL are great rap tunes by K.M.D. But the listing of "Rise N' Shine" (which is NOT on MY CD,how 'bout yours?) and songs like the tired "No Respect" are reasons why a 4-star is all I can give him. Yes I know he is a pioneer, but pioneers should not have to worry about some other cat taking their throne on the microphone. We all know who's "Knowledge Is King" K.M.D. You have nothing to prove to anyone. Wish you knew that then.
