5.0 out of 5 stars His all around best!, November 4, 2004
By
C. Troxler (New Haven, CT) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Kool Moe Dee (Audio CD)
NOTE: Ignore "Super Pimp." Just look at how he rated others. He dos not know anything about the real hip-hop or a classic album like this.

When this album first came out, many were surprised that old school (then old school could mean that you were out for three years or so, just as long as you were amongst the early rappers) Moe Dee would come back out. Kool Moe Dee, Busy Bee and Spoonie Gee are in my opinion, the only old, old school rappers to make good and updated hip-hop into the modern era without sounding old school.

"Go See the Doctor" was a hip-hop classic out the gate. That was a Teddy Riley prodution. Many people don't know this, but Teddy Riley produced a lot of early hip-hop classics before people knew his name. "Bad Mutha" had hot ryhmes. "I'll put a hurting on rappers/egos are crushed/pride gets swallowed/asses are bust!" You can't deny that.

He has other classics like "Do you Know What Time it is?" This was an all-time hip-hop classic and was a part of the era of hard-core joints. This was probaly Moe Dee's best single he ever put out. The beat was simple but hot.

"Monster Crack" is a song I still like because not only is it musical and sounds good, the hook it hot and what he is saying is true, but funny and serious at the same time. With songs like that (there were a lot of crack songs out then), it is a wonder why so many still picked up the pipe. Songs like that stayed in my mind and I never touched a pipe!

He also has "Kool Moe Dee" wich is a long song of non-stop rymes to show the world why he is supposed to be the best. Even then he knew that "...it's all a game/I might not be down because some rappers got a name/from screaming and yellin/with hot records sellin/but your ryhmes are smellin/that's why i'm tellin.." Maaaaan. If ANYONE writes on this and says it is not classic, they are either too young, new to real hip-hop, never heard the album and thinks that 9 songs makes it short, or they just do not relaize that there are hip-hop classics contained on this album. Not everthing that is classic was only shown on MTV and revived on VH-1(former video channels).

4.0 out of 5 stars KOOL MOE DEE - GIVE THE MAN HIS PROPS, March 21, 2000
By
"kevinmoondogjunior" (knockin' em back in AZ) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Kool Moe Dee (Audio CD)
IN THIS "NEW HIT RAPPER EVERY FIVE MINUTES" WORLD THAT WE LIVE IN, EVERYBODY IS QUICK TO FORGET PIONEERS LIKE KOOL MOE WHO SET THE STAGE FOR OTHERS. THIS IS A DOPE ALBUM. "GO SEE THE DOCTOR", A SONG ABOUT STDs IS HYSTERICAL ("NOW I KNOW WHY HER X-BOYFRIEND DAVE, CALLS HER MRS. MICROWAVE). MONSTER CRACK WAS A WAKEUP CALL TO THE PERILS OF CRACK COCAINE SPREADING THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY IN THE MID EIGHTIES. MOE DEE (RIGHTFULLY SO) HAS A LOUD, COCKY, AND BOASTFUL STYLE, BUT STILL MANAGES TO CONSTRUCT INTELLEGENT AND RELEVANT RHYMES. HIS SEVERAL YEAR BATTLE WITH L.L. (I THINK) GOT STARTED WITH THIS ALBUM. IN THE THANK YOU SECTION OF THIS ALBUM, KOOL GIVES A BACKHANDED THANKS TO LL AND SEVERAL OTHERS FOR "BREAKING MY STYLE OF RAP THROUGH". MOE ALSO SAYS SOMETHING TO THE EFFECT OF,"I WON'T MAKE A...DEAR EVETTE (TYPE OF SONG)", CLAIMING THAT THIS TYPE OF SONG IS FOR YOUR AVERAGE RAPPER. MOE DEE IS INTENSE, POTENT, INTELLIGENT, AND EVERY RAPPER NOWADAYS GREW UP ON HIS MUSIC. WHERE IS HE NOW THOUGH? WHO CARES, AT LEAST HE DIDN'T SELL OUT LIKE SO MANY WEAK RAPPERS OF TODAY DO. ALRIGHT, THIS IS STARTING TO TURN INTO A NOVEL. GOTTA JET.

4.0 out of 5 stars "The Coolest Of The Coolest Is Kool Moe Dee", September 21, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Kool Moe Dee (Audio CD)
That was the beginning of his solo career. A very great HipHop album back in the days. I think I bought this one and -of course- "How Ya Like Me Now" because of the memory flash the two CDs still givin' me. For any fan of classic HipHop albums.
