The Salmon brake pads are, in my experience, the best stoppers out there. At 190 + bike, I need good brake pads, and these are they.

If braking is important to you, as it is to me, Kool Stop is the best brake pad out there. I've tried Dura Ace, Swiss Stop, and a whole slew of others. The black Kool Stops are designed for dry weather; the salmon are for wet. They make a ½ and ½ pad, but I don't ride in the rain, so the blacks are for me. They never squeal (assuming the brake bad is adjusted with the proper toe in), and stop your bike faster than any other pad sold. And they're light for us weight weenies. Be warned they fit only Dura Ace style brake shoes, so be sure they will fit your bike.

I had Zero Gravity brakes (a gift, because they're so expensive I'd never buy them) and they didn't stop my bike very well. So I put in Kool Stops and the difference was remarkable. I felt confident again that I could descend a hill and brake the bike when needed.

For the best braking experience you're likely to enjoy, Kool Stop are the pads of choice. I have three bikes, and they all are now equipped with Kool Stops. I've NEVER heard a single bad word about these pads, and I know a lot of cyclists who use them. Cyclists are a hypercritical breed, which makes this lack of criticism quite remarkable.

So, get a pair and you'll stop where and when you want to. Is there anything else you expect from your brakes?

I purchased the kool stop bicycle brake pads continental in gray and installed them on an old 80's schwinn road bike with steel wheels i use to ride aroud everyday. I live next to the beach in santa barbara and i dont know if the weather has anything to do with it but when there is a lot of humidity in the air specially in the mornings with the marine layer these pads make a really loud brake squeal when they are applied to brake. They brake great in rainy days, sunny days, cold days however its just really annoying when they make noise. Happens mostly when the brakes are applied hard. I wish i would have gone with the red/orange pads instead of the gray. Maybe they would have been quieter

I bought these pads for my 1986 Fuji, which had appallingly bad braking performance with the old pads. The new pads are much better at slowing me down. The color is odd, but not really objectionable.

Initially, they squeaked quite badly. Once I sanded the pads to achieve some toe-in, and put some miles on them, they quieted down nicely.

If you think your old bike's brakes are terrible, try these pads before replacing the brakes. You will not believe how much better you can stop once you get these properly set up. Will make you think your crappy old bike is a top of the line carbon fiber spandex worthy bike (okay not really, but you will stop a lot better).

The Kool Stop brake pads are an improvement over Shimano Dura-Ace/Ultegra. Braking is smoother, quicker and quieter. I replaced my Shimano brake pads at the same time I installed new aluminum wheels on my bike. Judging from the condition of the rims after about 300 miles, the Kool Stop brake pads appear to be gentle to the rims. Due to the low milelage on these brake pads, I can't judge how long they will wear relative to the Shimanos, but given the relatively low price for the Kool Stops, I'm willing to replace them more often than the Shimanos, if necessary.

I had replaced the brake pads on my older 15 speed every year for the past
4 years. Never had good results with whatever brand sporting goods stores had.
Stopping distances too long. Or endured a lot of noise.
These pads did the trick. No more noise, & stopping is much improved,
without locking up.

This is a very nice brake power upgrade. It also protects wheels through the unique Kool Stop rubber and their little wiper that cleans your wheels every time you stop. That same system also stops in the wet. Much less pressure is needed for braking.

...is to get a set of Kool Stop salmon brake pads. The other Kool-Stops are great, but if you have an aluminum alloy rim, get the salmon-colored ones: They will work best in wet, dry, clean or muddy conditions.

I bought a new Linus Scout two months ago. The stock pads were shrieking under heavy braking and wearing the rim. I'm 220lbs. and it was a pleasant surprise how well the Continentals work. Best upgrade ever.
