They seem to last pretty long, too.

I could get away with running the Avenir's front and back but I've just been running the Kool-Stops in back and the Sticky-Fingers up front.

The installation was as easy as ever, and they stop great.

I have been riding with these on my mountain bike for over a month. So far I love them. My old Shimano pads had become noisy, and were grinding down the rims. These Kool Stop pads are almost silent. They do a much better job of stopping the bike than the old pads. They work well in the rain, they are easy to modulate, and they aren't "grabby."

One note of caution: Thoroughly clean your rims before putting these pads on, to remove all the material deposited by your old pads. Otherwise, your wet stopping ability will be decreased.

I have years of experience installing brake shoes on my bikes and on other people's bikes. There are no better brake shoes (brake pads) than Kool Stop. These are worth every penny. They would be a bargain at twice the price.

put these on my bmx bike. originally, it took a long time for my brakes to fully stop my bike. then i put these on, and the lightest tap of the brake and the wheel would skid (fun, but bad for tires.) i wouldnt reccomend them for front brakes, because these will probably shoot u over the handlebars. definately buy!!

These pads are not only thick, but they work very very well, just the slightest tap of the brake and the bike stops fast! I highly recommend them. :)

Back before the days of disks and even linear pull brakes, cantilever brakes were the norm on mountain bikes. I first started using Eagle Claw shoes in the 90's; the plain black compound then. They were and are great. Easy to install, as canti shoes go, and the fin on the back plays a dual role of sweeping wet stuff off the rim and setting the toe-in for the contact surface. On he recommendation of my LBS, I tried the dual compound with black and salmon this time. The installation was as easy as ever, and they stop great. I have not used them yet in any wet and muddy conditions, so I am not sure how much the salmon compound will make a difference the next time I get caught on a muddy ride.

I have to add that i was on the verge of upgrading to linear pull brakes on this bike, but I decided to clean the rims and throw on new KS shoes instead, and I am happy. This bike is more for trail riding and touring; and the cantilevers give ample stopping power. For hard-core mountain riding, I would go linear pull; probably with Kool Stop shoes on those brakes.

I have an older "city bike" with calliper brakes and steel rims. I first bought some cheaper (Dia Compe Grey Matter) pads, but those were horrible.

On my first ride with Kool Stop salmon pads, I was able to lock up my rear wheel with a firm pull of the brakes.

As a side note, these do work perfectly well with old-school calliper brakes. I wasn't sure if they would or not, so I also bought a pair of the Kool Stop Continental salmon pads (which look like the normal, old-school brake blocks). Turns out, they both work fine (I think any of the Kool Stop threaded pads will) but, for an extra $1, these have a larger surface area, a cool squeegee to clean debris from the rims, and conical washers to allow adjustment of the pads.

I don't review many products online, but did want to say that these are great!

One of the best brake pads you can buy satisfies me once again! You really can't beat Kool-Stop for their price and quality. The threaded models have a long enough bolt that will fit almost any center pull / side pull brake system. Highly recommend.

Could not make these things stop squealing. Took the bike to the shop and the mechanic could not make them stop squealing. Returned them for another brand and now all is well.

The problem with these is they do not use the standard cup washers to allow adjusting toe in/out. So if they happen to fit your arrangement perfectly, you are in. If not, you are SOL. I've used different Koolstops on my road bike and my experience has been that they are superb pads. This particular model, unfortunately, would not work for me. So I have to give it one star. Your mileage may vary.
