good replacement brake pads for cantilevers,

Although these pads are a little pricey, I decided to try them because everyone always says that Kool-Stop makes the best pads. Well I don't know if they're the best or not, but they are decidedly better than the Tektro pads that came with my brakes, which I've been told are actually pretty good. I bought the "cyclocross pads" not because I race cross (I don't) but because they fit cantis which I have and they have replaceable refills so instead of having to replace the whole thing when the pads wear down you just refill them with new friction material. If I understand the somewhat confusing documentation of these on the web correctly (apparently they're a new product without much info out there) these take Dura-Ace road holder refills but fit cantilevers. (yes, Kool-Stop makes Dura-Ace style refills in a variety of compounds.)
Anyway, I'm thoroughly satisfied with these and my only quibble is that the mounting hardware is a little more fiddly than the hardware on the original Tektro pads. Other than that they just plain work; you can pull a "stoppie" with these if you're so inclined. If you ride even semi-seriously you should have good brakes, and these pads are at least "good." I'm hesitant to give them a more glowing review just because I haven't really ridden any other pads in years other than the Tektros that I replaced.

These stop great. I bought the larger set but they were too big for my front brakes so I swapped out for these. They are really nice pads. These do not stop too well in the rain. I may need to break them in more but they slid a lot more. They are better in the dry than my previous brakes but the rain stopping distance is why the get 4 stars. (I commute on my bike so I've been able to test them out in many situations). Buy the brakes, brakes are the most important part of any vehicle. Don't cheap out.

This review is from: Kool Stop Cross Dura 2 Threaded Set Triple Compound Pad (Sports)
I bought these to use on the Paul Components Racer Brakes I put on my road bike. While there is definitely nothing wrong with the excellent Kool Stop Supra 2 Bicycle Brake Shoes that came with the brakes, I thought the look of the Cross Pads coupled with the ease of changing pads when necessary more in line with what I wanted. Add to that the cost of replacment Kool Stop Dura 2 pads is about $9 compared to the Supra 2's $11 price tag.I find little or no difference in the stopping power of either brake pad. So even though the Cross Pad is smaller (shorter in overall length,) it perfoms every bit as well as the Supra 2. I believe the metal pad holder also helps dissipate braking heat better on long down hills.
