I just wish the handle didn't have the tendency to pop off.

It works fine when plugged into adapter for a/c but doesn't work in my car.

We purchased the Koolatron P25 for a 3000 mile road trip in Aug-Sept 2010. We had medicines to keep in it as well as the desire not to deal with ice and melt for 2 weeks. It's size was perfect to fit in the foot-well behind either driver or passenger seats without interfering with the seats adjustments (in a VW Passat sedan). We were able to keep just the right amount of food and liquids in it for daily lunches and snacks while on the road. I read other user's reviews of the product before purchasing and everything that was stated came to be our experiences with it as well. The handle is awkward. It doesn't seem that it would take rocket science for Koolatron to fix it so the lid function as well as the power cord placement would not be so difficult to manipulate without 3 hands and a tail.
I also baught the power adapter so I could plug it into the house power for pre-cooling as well as use in hotel rooms or whenever we were not in the car - that worked perfectly. All things considered, we are glad we purchased it because the trip was much easier with it along.
So, my plea to Koolatron - please fix these awkward handle/lid/powercord placement issues and you will have a "5" review every time and you will sell a couple million of these babies.

We used our new Koolatron on a 10 day camping trip - no more ice! What a great product. In the car and in the cabin - kept everything cold. We are going to purchase another one prior to our next trip - one for drinks and one for food. It only iced up on us one time, when the humidity was high and we had some foods with liquids - not sealed tight enough. Important to keep the inside of the cooler dry.

The P25 is a good cooler for beverages and small items. It does tend to be top heavy (where the cooling unit is located). I would recommend the P27 as it is just a little bigger, wider, and more balanced. The P27 has a heat/cool function, which the P25 does not. I have kept the P25 as I didn't want to go through the hassle of a return. Amazon is great to deal with, however. Jim

I have owned a Koolatron Companion Cooler (Model P-26) for over two years now and I love it. The cooler keeps frozen food frozen and beverages and food cold for hours after you turn off your vehicle's engine. The cooler is a medium size cooler, but it has more usable space than traditional coolers because you don't have to add ice to keep your food and beverages cold. The cooler holds 37 12-ounce cans or about two days of food and beverage for a family of four. I keep my Koolatron cooler in the back of my Ford Explorer at all times. The cooler is great for those days when I don't want to go straight home after grocery shopping. I always have beverages and occasionally food in my cooler. I keep the thermostat inside my Ford Explorer set at 72 degrees and my cooler's internal temperature stays around 36 degrees. To monitor the cooler's internal temperature I velcroed a thermostat to the inside of the coolers lid. To keep the cooler from draining my vehicle's battery when the engine is not running, I purchased the optional Koolatron Battery Saver. To keep my food and beverages cold overnight or while staying in motel rooms, I purchased the optional Wagan AC/DC Power Adapter for 12V coolers. Plug the cooler into a Wagan AC/DC Power Adapter and the power adapter into a garage or motel room electrical outlet and food and beverages stay cold indefinitely. One drawback to the cooler is that the refrigeration unit is located in the cooler lid making the cooler top heavy and subject to tipping over if you do not have anything in it. If you leave your cooler in your vehicle at all times, you are going to have either leave something in it that weighs two or more pounds or position the cooler so that it won't tip. Other than the tipping issue, the cooler is great and I strongly recommend it for traveling in your vehicle.

This Koolatron unit was purchased for long weekend trips to keep beverages and lunches cold during the hot summer trips. Overall, the cooler met our expectations. It takes a little while for it to get cool, but when we start the trips with an icepack in the cooler it works very well. The lid is a bit heavy and awkward to maneuver, so we found it is easier to deal with when the cooler travels in the back seat (strap in with a seat belt) rather than on the floor behind the seat. See attached photo as illustration.

We did not buy the pricey AC charger is specificity made by Koolatron Koolatron Multi-Purpose Adapter 110AC to 12 Volts DC ( Model AC-15), we thought we could use a cheap one from Radio Shack. But that was a mistake. The Radio Shack one was not powerful enough to handle Koolatron and immediate shut off. We wanted to pre-cool Koolatron before leaving home before the trips and use it in the hotel room when needed.

The Radio Shack splitter for the cigarette lighter did work very well and allowed us to plug in all the gadgets that we travel with as well as give us extra cord length so the cooler can be easily moved around.

I liked

1) The size is just right.
2) With an assist of an ice pack the cooler stayed cold all day, even when we left it unplugged for 4 hours during 98F hot day.
3) The unit is very quiet, we could barely hear it while riding in the car

I did not like

1) The lid is a bit cumbersome

How does this cooler work?

The cooler is small and light because it uses thermoelectric refrigeration as the cooling method.
