5.0 out of 5 stars new ways for classical music, March 23, 2009

This review is from: Kopatchinskaja / Say: Beethoven Ravel Bartok Say (Audio CD)
finally a young classical musician that is not afraid of being individual and going other ways. classical music needs more vision otherwise it will just be a commodity. why play beethoven in the 21st century ? kopatchinskaja and say try to give an answer and others should try as well or stop playing. the crisis of classical music is a selfmade one. if young musicians are not pushed to find new and personal ways of reading and playing the old classical pieces, then there will be no more place for it in the future. kopatchinskaja, say, kennedy, try to find new ways. we need more of it - and i don't mean the pop classic often mistaken for a new approach...

This is the most erotic Kreutzer you could ever expect after reading Tolstoy. It's there, the electricity from one to the other, violin and piano. All the performances on the disc are excellent. The composition by Fazil Say has certainly deserved a hearing after all the wonderful work by him and his partner. The piece is eclectic, but essentially conservative, not as brilliant or arresting as you might expect, given the thrilling flights applied to the performance of the preceding composers. The Kreutzer is stupendous.
