LOVE IT!,
By LadyEagleKeeper (Seoul South Korea) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Korean: Lonely Planet Phrasebook (Paperback)
I've been living in Korea for about 6 months now and use this book frequently. It's small enough to carry around in a purse or pocket but holds TONS of information. Everything you need on a daily basis to get around with the locals. The layout is great, you can see it, sound it out or if all else fails... just point! Would definately recommend!

My teenager uses this book to communicate with her international friends at school, over emails, and text messages. It works! Information is accurate and they are better able to communicate.

Love this book!,

I love this book so much! What I love the most (I almost wrote the mostly..maybe I should learn my native language better before trying to learn a foreign language...) about this book is that it has Hangul as well as the Romanisation system for reading the language. This book is broken down into sections like social, practical, and food. It also has a section called tools which goes over the basics like the alphabet, calendar, numbers, and grammar. In each section this book also contains little paragraphs about the culture relating to the phrases in that section. This is a great book! If you want to learn Korean I recommend this book!!!I also recommend the website "talk to me in korean"!! Its great and has free lessons and interaction with the teachers!!

Portable yet comprehensive,

I am trying to learn Korean on my own time, and this little phrasebook has proven more than just a book of common terms and phrases. The front section includes tips on pronunciation, grammar, and even the history of the language. Reading this really helps me understand and makes it easier for me to learn the words and phrases. The pronunciation guide is very clear.
There are many sections, including social, food, travel, health, and more. I feel like the information is very up-to-date; it even includes pick-up lines! Of course, the dictionaries (English-to-Korean and Korean-to-English) at the end of this book don't have every word, but it has many essential ones.

I took this phrasebook along with me to Korea earlier this year. Sure, there are free podcasts, instruction guides online, phrase lists, etc...but nothing puts it into the most compact, useful and travel-friendly sense as the LP Phrasebook does - it is small enough to fit inside a coat pocket, pants pocket, purse, and so forth. Even though I tried to study up on Korean beforehand, this was a life-saver, especially when you go outside Seoul and the likelihood of finding English speakers dramatically dips.It stays very well-focused on the topics you'll need - eating out/food, shopping, hospitality and tourism attractions. The phrasebuilder is especially good, since English and Korean have very different sentence structures. Of course, along with buying this, I would invest at least a little time learning to pronounce Korean characters - or nobody will have any idea what you're saying!

GREAT ITEM~!!!!!,
This review is from: Korean: Lonely Planet Phrasebook (Paperback)
I must say, that when I first opened my package containing this item, I was quite disappointed. The book was tinier than I expected, fitting perfectly into the palm of my hand. My feelings, however, changed immediately once I began reading the book. The beginning portion briefly gives you some instructions on how to read Hanguel (The Korean alphabet). The rest of the book is nicely separated into sections that give you very helpful phrases and words that you will use in your daily talk. Also, throughout the book, there are sections of cultural insight that will give you a short description of an interesting part of unique Korean culture. They give you the phrases and words in Hanguel, Romanized, and Phonetic forms. I will highly recommend this product to everyone who is learning Korean. It is a great addition to add to your books of Korean language. You won't regret this buy at all!
