Product Description

The GT-4 illuminates the red LEDs around its circumference in one of three tuning modes: Strobe, Mirror, or Meter. There are also triangular green tuning guides that indicate whether the input is sharp or flat, helping you tune your instrument more precisely. The GT-4 is a unique style of chromatic tuner in which LEDs around its circumference indicate how close the input pitch is to the note name displayed in the center. In spite of its compact size (fits in the palm of your hand), the illuminated circumference and large note name display provide excellent visibility, allowing high-precision tuning over a range of A0 (27.50 Hz)-C8 (4186.01 Hz). The adjustable calibration lets you specify the reference pitch in a range of 410 Hz-480 Hz (1 Hz steps).

3.0 out of 5 stars Accurate, flexible, but problematic, January 24, 2009

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Korg GT4 High-performance Guitar & Bass Tuner with a High-visability Display
I bought this tuner after seeing a wind player using the chromatic version, which I was very impressed with. It has three tuning modes, one of which is a strobe-tuner imitation mode.

Being a bass player who uses an extended-range bass, I need a tuner that zeros in on low notes well, and this tuner does. The strobe mode is excellent and zeros pitches easily and with superb accuracy.

Even so, I'm going to quit using it. The GT4 has a problem that makes it very irritating to use. To get it to register bass notes, the player has to play extremely loudly. At moderate to soft volume, this tuner simply doesn't register at all. The problem is the same no matter what note I'm tuning. This presents a major problem on stage because I can't easily get to my amp's mute switch to tune. I play a high-output active preamp bass, so signal strength should not be a problem. The Korg CA-30 and TM-40 flawlessly zero in on pitches at low volume.

I haven't checked whether this problem is the same with guitar mode. It affects all three tuning modes. While the accuracy of the tuner and the readability of the three modes are excellent, the signal strength problem makes it less than useful to me. I just can't blast out in performance to tune. If your situation is different, this may not be a problem for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars This baby works!, May 22, 2011
This review is from: Korg GT4 High-performance Guitar & Bass Tuner with a High-visability Display
I HATE most handheld tuners because of the delayed time between you plugging the string and the tuner's reading. This baby reads in real time as soon as you pluck the string! I recommend it.
