3.0 out of 5 stars PC trouble
I'm a music producer and generally use pro effects, I bought KP to play. The sound is better than everybody says, I should say that you must use it without saturating it, but inside its range the audio quality is very good. The driver doesn't work with my HP Windows7 x64, despite what Korg says in the site, so I still can't reprogram it or use it as a midi controller.

first thing, i am no where near a pro with effects and recording equipment, that said, i have a long history with korg, and know from exp they make really good effects and at good prices. this machine is addictive. i want to let potential buyers know what you can do with the kaoss right out of the box, with about 20min w the manual. so it is basically an effects processer, instrument(drum machine and synth) and a sampler(w 4 banks a-d) i have a 400 disc player, and ran the rca through the korg line in, and line out into a 8 track digital recorder. and its just fun. i hit random play, and rarely get past the first 30 seconds of a song. the kaoss makes it very easy to sample any line in, and loops them, you can use up to 4 at a time, and you can save your fav samples on sd cards (2gb max, which you can buy on amazon for 7$,i like kingston) thats just the beginning, once you get a sample or samples, you have a hundred dif effects(phaser, grain, delays, re-verb common effects and sounds in the korg library) so you get a sample, you loop it back and you can manipulate it in a infinite number of ways. it also has bpm, a feature that syncs the beats in the machine to music from the line in, so it does the timing for you, and the beats loop in increments(4,8,16} the touch pad(which is huge) act as the knobs on effects and synths. so the clip its playing changes with every move of your finger. , every time you change the effect it opens a new world of the same sample.
now the drum machine and synth, there could have been more banks here and less effects, but some i imagine would say the opposite. i very much like that it loops seamlessly, and you can change the measures, but not as versatile as traditional drum machines. the touch pad responds very well, though when you tap faster as in a drum roll, it will hold up, but the sound is more in the held position anyway. and its somewhat user friendly, i say that cause i hate manuals, i just like to play, so i have figured out about 20% of this machine, and still i cant help to smile just looking at it. i have been looking into samplers for 15yrs and this is the least expensive, most fun, and easiest to use machine i have ever seen. . i, you can be silly, serious, either way it will impress(it will process anything w rca jacks, so there is no limit, there is allot of rhythm in the most common tv shows, radio programs, even the worst lp has sumthing sweet korg gives one year warranty,
update drum machine and synth work welly well w my microkorg, play one w your right and other with the left hand, ,my guitar through the mic input is really cool, you press hold on the effects, and you can change the sound completely after each riff, not so good w my bass, distorts at low levels

I use the korg kp3 with my turntables as an effect tool and it work incredibly well. the synth portion is kinda lackin but i guess thats why there is a kaossilator pro. this can be used to do minor phasers and filters and you can also get pretty crazy with it. also very fun to use the vocoders or just put filters on your voice. i have not used the sampling features as much as i thought i would but they seem to work very well and all the effects can be applied to your samples. i just cant get enought of this thing.

This thing is a bit pricey but it's feature packed. Though many people have used it almost as a standalone device, it adds worlds of variety to your existing equipment. When I first started using it the Korg Kaossilator I spent hours trying out everything. The touch pad makes it damn near faster and easier as opposed to fiddling with all kinds of knobs. It even doubles as a midi controller, and spectacular at that. The feature's never end, and the build quality is nice and you can save it all to an SD card (2gb is the most supported) or transmit your settings to the computers. Whatever application you use this for it's very diverse and worth getting one.

There is no doubt this is an amazing piece of equipment. No doubt their are rave reviews because it's fun to play with. I wont go into a lengthy discussion of what this offers. There are plenty of other reviews/youtube videos for that.

A couple things to note. It does best with very busy dance songs that have even timing 4/4, 2/4 etc... The effects are not half as impressive on normal music. While still fun to play with, you'll get the best results when pumping dance music through this thing.

2nd things to note, which isn't a huge deal breaker, and I can see why it is, but, the Microphone jack is Mono. So if you are thinking you can just plug your ipod into it and get a left and right channel you will be mistaken. To compensate you'll need an 3.5mm to split RCA cable to plug into the back. About a 3 dollar purchase.

As with most products from Korg I find hours drifting by as I just play and have fun. Makes you feel like a kid again ;)

4.0 out of 5 stars A nice addition to any rig, April 30, 2011

I use this for effects processing and to store samples. It's sits next to my synth and my drum machine and provides a nice compliment to that rig. While probably not a must have for everyone it certainly integrates well into my workflow and has really helped me work out some material I was working on. Some of the effects aren't particularly useful to me but I love the flexibility of the KP3. Overall, it's lots of fun, easy to use, and quite strong on it's own. I'm sure if I was inclined I could bang out music on the KP3 by itself.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Great DJ Addition...., December 1, 2010

Korg KP3 Kaoss Pad
Korg KP3 Kaoss Pad Dynamic Effects Sampler

This is a great addition to and DJ setup or even music composition setup. Both of which I enjoy and do. Overall, this product is decent but my issue isn't with the product, it was with the shipping. I ordered next day delivery and ended up getting it 3 days later. The shipping company was a poor choice for amazon. At least Amazon took care of my order and my troubles.

As for the product, the Korg KP3 Kaoss Pad is a pretty good product. It does have a learning curve but so does anything I use for the first time. I think I can appreciate the sensitivity of the pad itself and the dial system. I do struggle a little with the effects and sample codes that appear on the display screen. Of course, it is my first time using a sampler/effects pad too in my work. I think that this product can really help anyone would-be DJ or music composer in the long run if they take time to learn and practice.

5.0 out of 5 stars coolest toy ever, March 7, 2011

I guess it's not a toy. This thing does stuff that nothing else can do. I haven't used the sampling much, but as far as an effects processor for hip hop/trip hop, it's amazing. You can play records through it to warp their sound when sampling. Gotta have it if you have an MPC.
