5.0 out of 5 stars Worked for 8 years!
I bought an MM-1 back in 2001 to use while running and cycling (I set it to 176 bpm), and I've worn it for the past 8 years during all workouts longer than a half hour, including dozens of marathons and triathlons. Finally, earlier this year the battery ran out, so I had to change it (yes, the screws are small, and changing the battery is a pain in the a@@). All the bad...

1.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't Work!
Out of the box, this metronome didn't work. The screen came on and you could set the beats, but no sound came out of it at all. I talked to another musician who looked at some in a music store and he said 2 or 3 boxes were opened so he could check it out and none of them worked. I hope they took them off the shelves and I hope this review prevents any more sales...

We are going to try the MM2 before we give up on the ear piece metronome entirely.

This product never worked. The battery was impossible to change, I had to get an electrician to do it and then it only beat for 1 day. The battery just does not sit right in the chamber for the current to flow and the screws are tiny and difficult to manipulate. A good idea but more research and revision needed before it is marketable.

All the bad reviews must reflect a shipment every now and then with worn-out batteries (I can imagine it being turned on by accident during shipping and subsequent storage).

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome!, July 15, 2009

This tiny metronome is awesome! It came with the battery out of the product so that I could see how to change the battery when I need to. It's very simple to install and change as long as you read the directions that say to put it on the little tray and not into the metronome which I did at first and had to correct my mistake. I think that was where some of the other reviewers had problems and said that it didn't work.

It's very easy to operate and has an output loud enough and with a pitch that is perfect for even drums so that nothing can drown it out. Being a guitar player, when I fill in on the drums, this helps me keep my beat perfectly so that I can sound like a pro. This is great for practicing any instrument, especially if you tend to walk around while you practice like I do. I even gave it the headbang test during a recording session today and the clip held it onto my ear with ease. It's much smaller than you'd think by looking at the picture, I mean, this thing is REALLY tiny, which is awesome.

Don't hesitate to buy the MetroGnome, trust me, you'll love it!

a little hard (because so tiny) to insert battery, but overall great product!

I love this little thing! It's small and light enough to carry in my pocket, it's easy to use, it's loud enough for me to hear while I'm playing, and it fits comfortably in my ear while I'm using it. It does exactly what it's supposed to do. In fact, I liked my first one so well, I bought a second one for my son to use.

The meter gradations adjust by 4s -- i.e. 64 bpm, 68 bpm, 72 bpm, etc. -- which is quite enough for my needs. All I needed was a steady beat to warn me when I'm rushing or slowing down. And the user selects the desired meter so the device can accent on beat one of each measure.

The only issue I have found is with inserting the battery. The instruction diagram makes it look like the sounding section (the part that fits into the ear) separates into two halves, and that is not the case. Upon close inspection (remember, it's very small), you can find a ridged area that you have to use to gently slide open a disk-like section where the battery rests. Be careful.

OK, I've been using the device for a while, and I still really like it. However, there are some technical (design? manufacturing?) flaws that potential buyers should know about.

1. The first battery eventually got used up (as all batteries do), but when I inserted the new battery, the already-tiny LED screen no longer displayed full numbers. It now displays only partial numbers, so I kind of have to guess/intuit what the setting is.

2. Upon a subsequent battery replacement, a piece of the metronome simply fell of. It was not an essential piece, and whether a drop of glue had come undone or a tiny plastic connector broke, I cannot say. I'm almost afraid to see what will happen then next time I have to replace the battery!

As I said, I still like the instrument, and it stays in my ear and keeps time very well. However, it seems not to be intended for life-long usage; my grandchildren will not inherit it, and nobody will ever find it on eBay as an antique item. But considering the relatively low price and the convenience of its small size, I have no regrets about buying it.

1.0 out of 5 stars BAD PRODUCT, December 25, 2009
This review is from: Korg MM-1 MetroGnome Worlds Smallest Digital Metronome (Electronics)
Barely a month of use and the switch wouldnt work. The switches are poorly designed and are very hard to adjust if you dont have long finger nails. A waste of money. Well, Im not surprised because its China made product.

Find something else. Dont buy this product.

1.0 out of 5 stars WAY too loud..., December 19, 2009

This review is from: Korg MM-1 MetroGnome Worlds Smallest Digital Metronome (Electronics)
I've been a singer for 20 years, and have recently decided to put serious effort into playing piano for the sake of being my own instrumental accompaniment. As with most "newbies" at an instrument, my meter tends to waver in relation to the complexity of what I'm playing. At home, I can have my metronome audible. If I'm playing with another musician, I can follow their timing. My worry was that to play solo at a live gig, I'd have no seasoned musician to follow for meter, and CERTAINLY wasn't about to have an audience hear a metronome. (May as well just sing to a track or push "demo" on the keyboard.)

I did a search for in-ear metronomes, and found this. I thought it'd be perfect to keep me paced without cheesing up my performance. Disappointment: I turned this little thing on, and my husband could hear it from the other room. So, first problem- my vocal mic would pick it up, and second problem- it was so loud, it was actually painful NEAR my ear, let alone in it.

It had tempo and time signature buttons, but no volume control. It even had a warning not to use it for an extended period of time due to the danger of hearing damage. I returned it. I'll work on my meter.

5.0 out of 5 stars Does the job!, September 16, 2008
This review is from: Korg MM-1 MetroGnome Worlds Smallest Digital Metronome (Electronics)
Got this metronome just a few weeks ago... and it does what it's supposed to do - keep me in time. And since the metronome is in my ear, other people around me don't get annoyed with the clicking sound. And, I can hear the click even when lots of other stuff is going on around me. Looks kinda cool as well.
