5.0 out of 5 stars Good Deal
First of all, I bought my Korg SP250 from Kraft Music which is an advertiser on this Amazon page. Kraft Music was the best. I called them to discuss my purchase and they were very helpful. The piano was delivered promptly to my front door. Their Web sight has short videos of the sales reps for Yamaha, Korg, and Casio playing and discussing the features of the...

3.0 out of 5 stars Fine Digital Piano, Poor MIDI Controller
I purchased the Korg SP250 as a practice piano, a recording piano, and as a MIDI controller for a Ketron SD2 sound module.

As a practice piano it is completely acceptable. The touch of the keys is pretty good and the piano sound is fine too.

As a recording piano it is not entirely acceptable. Even with lots of added reverb, the sound tends to...

3.0 out of 5 stars Fine Digital Piano, Poor MIDI Controller, July 10, 2011

I purchased the Korg SP250 as a practice piano, a recording piano, and as a MIDI controller for a Ketron SD2 sound module.

As a practice piano it is completely acceptable. The touch of the keys is pretty good and the piano sound is fine too.

As a recording piano it is not entirely acceptable. Even with lots of added reverb, the sound tends to come across as "too close". This is a pity, because the recorded piano sound itself is quite realistic, better than it sounds over the SP250's built-in speakers.

As a MIDI controller this is all but a complete bust. The Korg ignores MIDI control changes above 30 (30-128), so it's extremely limited as a controller. This was by no means made clear in the literature or reviews for the keyboard. I came across it in the middle of the owner's manual as I was puzzling through the fact that I couldn't access most of the banks and sounds in my sound module.

As it stands, this will be a fine practice piano for my husband, but I've had to purchase a new controller and digital piano.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Deal, December 1, 2011

First of all, I bought my Korg SP250 from Kraft Music which is an advertiser on this Amazon page. Kraft Music was the best. I called them to discuss my purchase and they were very helpful. The piano was delivered promptly to my front door. Their Web sight has short videos of the sales reps for Yamaha, Korg, and Casio playing and discussing the features of the different brands. I found this really helpful in making my final decision.

I have played a digital piano for 3 years and my old piano was a starter Yamaha, YPT 310. I would highly recommend this 62 key digital as a starter. It has every function you can think of and it is very easy to play.

I was ready to move up to a full piano and my new Korg has everything I need. I am glad to have the larger piano keys as I was always hitting more than one key on my starter Yamaha. I love the speakers on the Korg. The sound moves across the speakers as you play the keys just like a real piano. I also love the solid sound of the piano.

Overall the SP250 is a great bargin because it includes the piano stand (made to fit this piano), a bench, and headphones. I had a budget and for $700, I got everything I needed to continue my musical hobby.

Two more items: 1. the piano does not have a recorder. My Yamaha had one. It is something you can buy separately. 2. Expect to take a while to get used to the weighted keys. However, it is a transition I needed to make.

I fall in love with the piano first time I touched the keys. It's has a very nice classic piano sound. Not sure whether all possible sound choices are practical, maybe only 2-3 out of all.

1.0 out of 5 stars BROKEN!, January 11, 2012

I was really disappointed in this product. It was very expensive and was broken when we opened it. Five of the keys on the keyboard were stuck and we had to take it to be fixed at our expense. It was easier to have it repaired than to try to fit it all back in the box and ship it back. Very unhappy with this item. Even with the warranty, Korg was not easy to deal with.
