Best Corgi Adventure Ever,
By
This review is from: Korgi, Vol. 1 (Paperback)
There are some things I use in my life to measure the taste and character of people I meet. Korgi is one of those things. If you don't find Korgi charming and precious, there's something wrong with your soul. In fact I suggest therapy.
Yes, it takes two minutes to read. You will read it ten times in a day. Korgi is a simple story of a little girl and her corgi. They have adventures. They fight monsters. But there's so much more, so much more definition, that the artist layers onto his creation that makes careful and extensive examination of the book worthwhile. Simply looking at a picture of the korgis presented does not satisfy, but looking and mentally dissecting every image does. Korgi is a sweet (but never saccharine) tale. Share it with someone who likes simple tales. And puppies.

Charming Artwork, No Dialog,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Korgi, Vol. 1 (Paperback)
Korgi is a graphic novel in the truest sense: it's all graphic. There's not a single word of dialog. Christian Slade's artwork is absolutely gorgeous (it's obvious that he has Corgis himself, because he captures them perfectly). This book is appropriate for all ages. Personally, I find it a little difficult to get involved in a story when it has no words, but as long as you're expecting a purely visual experience, I recommend this book.

Don't Miss It !,

WOW I'm going to 'read' it again as soon as I finish this review. It was an experience like a child's first awareness of a butterfly. Korgi Book 1 made me feel like a wide-eyed child agian. The drawings are rich with expression and movement; the story is exciting and unpredictable. Discovery, Adventure, Growth, Affection, Wonder. Yes, it is a fantasy for all ages. It can be shared with the youngest of dreamers and even old reminiscers like me. I can hardly wait for Korgi Book 2.

My children love "reading" the story to me.,

The illustrations are beautiful and how can you not love a girl and her dog? My children can't read yet, but they can read the facial expressions and every part of this story just by looking at the pictures. It is good for them to practice this important skill. In this story, Ivy is chased by Monsters, but her dog protects her and she fights back. There is a fun surprise at the end. I recommend this book very highly! It's one of my child's favorites.

Not a fan,
By Gary C Thomson (Seattle) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Korgi, Vol. 1 (Paperback)
I suppose if you really liked Corgis (the dogs) you might enjoy all of the nice drawings of them, but the story of the book falls flat. A majority of the panels are either big landscape drawings, or a single character running or walking. Not a lot going on there, especially when there's no dialogue. The interesting action panels are few (and oddly violent) and the tension within them is resolved so quickly that the story feels like an afterthought.Tacked on to the end is a pretty clear setup for a sequel, so maybe things get better with future books.

Found the first book by accident. My sister has had and loves Corgis so I knew she would love these and being an artist herself I knew she would love the illustrations as I do. I was right, she asked for this next one for Christmas. To me if you have an imagination you could read to a child and make up your own story as you go or have them add there twist too.

Love these books!,

I picked up the second book in this series because I have a corgi and thought the artwork was adorable! I was surprised to find that these books have more to offer than their cuteness factor. Published by Top Shelf, they're described as "all ages graphic novels" which essentially means that they have no words and the exact story is up to interpretation. A little bit fantasy, a little bit science fiction, the short volume is fraught with adventure, and, of course, adorable depictions of corgis. I thought this was an interesting take on the old Welsh myth that corgis were the companions of fairies.

Charming, But for a Niche Audience,
By
This review is from: Korgi, Vol. 1 (Paperback)
Let me start off by saying I absolutely adore animals, especially the ones with a wet nose & wagging tail/stump: meaning I am a member of said niche audience. If you don't care much for woofum, I highly doubt you'll enjoy this silly, whimsical tale.
The story is told solely through imagery, without a single word. It invokes the wonder of the innocent child within you as your eyes explore the pages. Always lush, intricate, soft, & alive, displaying a world alternately warm & frightening, the artist's history with Disney shows. (FYI: the art is in astute black & white.) A young girl named Ivy & her mythical corgi Sprout (I say 'mythical' for a reason) explore the magical, ethereal world around them. The story is as simple & complex as that. Abstract & symbolic, it never intends to be heady or philosophical; there is no true violence, drama, comedy, or romance; & this lack of concrete substance is why Korgi will only ever be treasured by a few, at least in the realm of hardened adults. Basically, if you're searching for Watchmen 2, this is not the place to look. (Though I'm sure you've guessed that already by the looks of the cover.) None the less, Korgi is a cuddly little comic, a fluffy fantasy filled with sweetness for all ages. I've found that whenever I'm having a rough day, a short flip through this cute, timeless adventure adds some sugar to my outlook. It achieves what is set out to achieve: charm. 3.5 stars rounded up because I'm nice & because for its audience it's a sparkling star. Another lovely, loving tribute to man's best friend a la comic---albeit far darker---that I highly, highly recommend is Nick Abadzis' 'Laika.' If you have a soul, I guarantee you'll be tearing up by the deeply moving end.

Not as fun as the first, but I'll still buy the third when it comes out,

I still loved this book, but I didn't feel it was on par with the first book. My children love these stories, but I find they re-read the first book a lot more than this one. I don't think they like that the wings were being stolen. Beautifully illustrated, and a lot of fun as usual. I can't wait to see what happens next.
