5.0 out of 5 stars Spellbinding, hard-hitting, fast moving, March 23, 2007
This review is from: Korinna - Daughters of the Fire, I (Daughters of Fire) (Perfect Paperback)
This is the sixth novel I've read by Kristina O'Donnelly, and once again she has come through for me. This is a spellbinding, hardhitting, and fast-moving historical novel that manages to be chock-full-of-information too. It is not as long as The Horseman or Andromakhe, but I understand there will be a sequel. I look forward to it. Recommended read. You won't be disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Clash of Civilizations, January 8, 2008
Kristina O'Donnelly's latest book in the Lands of the Morning series is a headlong immersion in a pivotal time when Anatolia was the battleground in the contest between Rome and the last of the Hellenic empires. Korinna, the main character and namesake of the novel, mirrors in her life and travels the issues and undercurrents of the times that culminate in the wars between Mithradates of Pontus and an aggressive but unsettled Roman Republic. The winner will rule the Western World.

O'Donnelly has the ability to bring into the light all the nuances of Greco-Roman culture and its clashes. Her knowledge of the period and feeling for the land are contagious. Her understanding of the occult and its place in the lives of the people of the time are on the mark. Put together with sex and action that's more than a tease and you have a recipe for an exciting read. Don't miss it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating historical fiction, November 24, 2006
This review is from: Korinna - Daughters of the Fire, I (Daughters of Fire) (Perfect Paperback)
During the late Roman Republic, Rome is distracted by civil war. The Italian states rise up against Rome's overbearing, and Marius and Sulla battle for primacy in the world-leading city-state-empire. In the east, Mithradites, the last of the great threats to Roman rule, sees an opportunity to act, to cast out the Romans and make himself the primary power in the region.

In this critical time in history, a young woman seeks knowledge of her past. Doing so puts her at risk--both from randy Roman soldiers and from the bloody revolution that Mithradites is preaching. Surviving will be tough. Can she also expect to find her heart?

Author Kristina O'Donnelly creates some of the most exciting historical fiction being written today.
