5.0 out of 5 stars Toilet Triumph or Fabulous Flusher
This is very easy to install (~10 minutes) with minimal tools since all is hand tightened. I replaced 3 defective FluidMaster 400's (and will do 3 more ASAP with Korky Quietfill) due to leaking water into the bowl, internal over-flow due to lousy design of the float adjuster, or the float sticking (not sliding up the tube to shut off the water).

This review is from: Korky 528 Korky Quiet Fill Toilet Fill Valve (Tools & Home Improvement)
I purchased a Korky Quietfill valve about 2 months ago and installed it following the instructions. After about 3 weeks I noticed the valve would continue to run ever so slightly even after it should have shut off. The running water sound was not a problem with the flapper because it was also brand new. Water was running into the overflow tube indicating the issue is definitely with the valve.

I should mention the second toilet in my house is a Toto. Toto uses the same valve as the Korky (Lavelle Industries). I've owned the Toto for 6 years and have had to replace the fill cap on the toilet valve twice. When the fill cap starts to fail on a Korky it will cause water to still trickle through the valve which was exactly the same symptoms I was having with this new valve. Thinking my new Quietfill valve perhaps had a defective fill cap I went out and bought a replacement cap at Lowes. Replacing it returned the valve to normal operation but only for a short time. After several flushes I noticed the valve was once again still running. I tried emailing Korky's customer service but didn't get much help from them. They just told me to insure the fill cap was securely tightened on top of the valve, which it was. They offered no explanation as to how or why a brand new Quietfill valve would be exhibiting this type of problem.

In an effort to see if something else might be causing the issue I removed the valve from the toilet, disassembled it to insure no debris were clogging it, checked the adjustment, and reinstalled it. After 3 flushes the problem returned. Rather than mess with this thing any further I returned to the store today and picked up an MJSI Hydroclean 660 valve. It's an updated design of the FluidMaster. The old Fluidmaster I had in my toilet ran reliably for 10 years without a single issue. I never had to replace ANY parts on it. Should've stuck with them to begin with.

Having had experience now with 2 Korky valves I can say I just don't trust them. Nothing worse than leaving your house for an extended period only to discover your toilet valve has been running the entire time wasting water and possibly causing water damage to your home.

Korky still has a way to go to make a reliable product in my opinion.

I was reluctant to buy Korky due to its name, but a defective replacement FluidMaster drew me to try it. Korky works excellent, quiet, efficient, and adjusts in height with a simple twist. Time will tell, but with a 5 year warrantee they must think highly of their product.

I strongly recommend replacing your flapper (No. 818 comes with a silicone flapper and chain), and replacing the water supply tube with a braded steel type to reduce the risk of a burst while away from home (made for most all toilets, sinks, and cloths and dishwashers) . It is simple to do when you replace the toilet fill valve, and you just need a couple of small crescent wrenches for that. The rubber toilet seals go bad over time and the newer tubes have silicone seals. At the same time, take a moment to snug up the tank screws inside the tank.

Highly recommend this product. Save shipping and go to Lowe's; valve and flapper kit for ~$10-11.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to install, but not sure about the "quiet" part?, February 2, 2009
This review is from: Korky 528 Korky Quiet Fill Toilet Fill Valve (Tools & Home Improvement)
I recently installed this as a replacement for a Fluidmaster that went bad after 3 years (not bad actually since they only carry a 1 year warranty). I purchased this primarily because it said it was "quiet" and because it had the longest warranty available (at least among those available at my local store).

The installation was SUPER easy - I'm a woman and very DIY, but I was still surprised this took only a few moments. Almost took me longer to get the old one out than to install this one.

I did have a slight problem the first day when I walked into the bathroom and heard the smallest running water sound - took off the tank cover and suspected I'd left the fill tube too long and it was trying to siphon, even though this fill valve clearly has "anti-siphon" stamped on the top. I shortened the fill tube and that took care of the sound/problem.

This does fill the tank QUICKLY, but quiet? I don't know - I don't find it to be any quieter than the Fluidmaster I had before. I may fiddle with the "volume" of water going to it, I have the valve wide open, and maybe that impacts the noise at fill up? Don't know, but I do not think it's noticeably quieter than any other, so if you're buying it JUST for that feature it may not fit that bill.

5.0 out of 5 stars Korky Quietfill valve No. 528 easily beats the Fluidmaster 400a fill valve system for hassle factor, June 19, 2006

This review is from: Korky 528 Korky Quiet Fill Toilet Fill Valve (Tools & Home Improvement)
I have recently replaced 2 of 3 Fluidmaster toilet fill valve units, as they were deficient from the beginning. (You may see that review under the Fluidmaster fill valve item also available through Amazon.com.) The Fluidmaster fill valves were adding shots of house water to the tanks, even when the shut/close valves were not leaking water into their bowls. This was verified by adding dye to the tanks' water and inspecting for seepage by non-verified shut/close valves(flappers). One of the two Fluidmaster valves was tapping the house water system every 30 minutes. This adds up to a huge waste which adds to your water bill. BOTTOM LINE: THE KORKY BRAND "QUIETFILL" REPLACEMENTS FOR THE FLUIDMASTER BRAND SOLVED THE PROBLEM. (Fluidmaster 400A fill valve instruction sheets provide a "troubleshooting" footnote:"If fill valve turns off and on during periods of non-use" there "may be a leak at the flapper" or the "tank ball/flapper is misaligned". Their ultimate solution is to purchase their "Model 599 Refill Clamp". They appear to feel justified in selling us a fix for a problem which their own unit caused. Sure, they have a guarantee, and they'll send you another. Now, factor-in the packaging, shipping, re-installation, and your time to do all that. Mine promptly went into the trash; I won't have that design in my house, period.

5.0 out of 5 stars Move Over Fluidmaster, November 7, 2008

This review is from: Korky 528 Korky Quiet Fill Toilet Fill Valve (Tools & Home Improvement)
I just installed the Korky Quietfill Valves in our home and I really think that it is a better design than the Fluidmasters slide float which does stick from time to time.. The little lady watched me change out two of them in 30 minutes and said, why didn't you change them out before if they are that easy to change????? The bottom line is change out those old fill valves with the Korky's, I do not think you will regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Korky Toilet Fill Valve, June 12, 2008
This review is from: Korky 528 Korky Quiet Fill Toilet Fill Valve (Tools & Home Improvement)
Although this just looks like a plain plastic product, it is easy to install and works well. I will have to see how it holds up over the years as I have had it only a few months.

Anyhow it is much better than the valve it replaced.

1.0 out of 5 stars Leaks, December 27, 2010
This review is from: Korky 528 Korky Quiet Fill Toilet Fill Valve (Tools & Home Improvement)
Despite several attempts, I could not get a seal where the new valve/washer meets the tank (Kohler, not Low type). Tried cleaning the tank, loosening and re-tightening the lock nuts (hand tight), etc. No luck. Never had this problem with Fluidmaster.

1.0 out of 5 stars starts leaking after a couple of weeks, November 8, 2010

worked fine for a couple of weeks, then the valve started slowly leaking so the tank constantly has water spraying into it.
Don't buy this product.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not a good procuct, February 19, 2012
This review is from: Korky 528 Korky Quiet Fill Toilet Fill Valve (Tools & Home Improvement)
I set the water level about an inch lower than the standard level to save some water. I checked several hours later for leaks but noticed the water level was at the overflow stage. I reset the Korky a couple of times and each time it reached the overflow level. This product is a piece of junk and if you buy it you're wasting your money as well as water.
