Crude but effective,
This review is from: K Rodent Trap (Kitchen)
If you have decent welding skills, you might be able to make this trap yourself. However those without welding skills or time would benefit from this trap. There's nothing technologically advanced about this trap, it just uses a sturdy steel frame and a very strong spring. The spring is just much stronger than your ordinary grocery store rat trap.
You should be cautious when setting this trap, as the spring should be strong enough to break a finger if you accidentally release it on yourself. Be careful if you have pets or neighbors have pets. Wear gloves as much as possible. I used chopsticks to lay the bait on the trap plate. Make sure you use the attached chain to use a stake (not included) to hold the trap in place. There is also a metal washer attached to the frame that you can use to screw the trap onto to something.

This trap is no comparison to the ordinary wooden or plastic rat traps.
With the latter ones rats escape far too often. This one has a very strong spring. I have put a little plastic cap, created a cup, from a cosmetics product onto the bait stalk so I can stuff it with cheese. Therefore rat has to put some effort to eat the bait. The trap does require a rat to step on it pretty hard to set it off. I have caught two rats in a two weeks period of time. I use WD 40 to lubricate it, because it will rust. I use it outside. Also, I put bricks on the three sides of the trap so a rat can only access it from the front. 11/07/2010 Ok over two years in use and countless number of killed rats. Yes it is strong and it can be messy and challenging to remove a dead rat from it but the death of a rat is instant and you have to have strong trap in order to kill big and strong rat.

I agree with the only other reviewer, this is a good trap, and as already said, it is very powerful. So just how do you get the thing set without breaking a finger (already said): I put the thing in a vise, made a pull back out of old cloths hanger (what would we do without them) and was able to set the thing without a chance of hurting myself, which is a good thing.
