5.0 out of 5 stars Delicious dairy-free desserts!
I was waiting for this book to be released ever since I heard about it, and I was not disappointed. I'm not the most accomplished baker out there, but I was able to follow along and bake some desserts that tasted so good that no one (especially myself!) believed that I actually made them.

I was disappointed to find that the recipes in this book rely on too many ersatz substitutions for real dairy. I don't need a cookbook to tell me how to use margarine or fake cream instead of the real thing. I was hoping for creative, dairy free, but healthy recipes.

I was waiting for this book to be released ever since I heard about it, and I was not disappointed. I'm not the most accomplished baker out there, but I was able to follow along and bake some desserts that tasted so good that no one (especially myself!) believed that I actually made them.

The book is organized into sections by the amount of prep time needed for each recipe, which is especially helpful if you need to make a dessert on short notice and want to try something new. The steps are well described and are pretty easy to follow, and the accompanying stories and descriptions of each item are fun to read.

My favorite recipes so far are "Bubba (Jam Button) Cookies", "Scones au Chocolat", "Almond Tuilles", and "Everyone's Favorite Chocolate Cake."

The pictures of the desserts are truly mouthwatering, and the black/white photos detailing the more difficult steps make the book that much easier to understand.

Finally, I am in debt to the author for giving the best description I've seen of how to caramelize sugar for Crème Brulee. I never had gotten it right before (although, like her children, I'm always happy for the excuse to play with a blowtorch in the kitchen).

A great addition to my cookbook shelf!

This is a terrific book with delicious yummy desserts. The book has three sections so a baker can select level of difficulty. The photographs are beautiful and many of the recipes are divine. I absolutely recommend this book to any kosher or dairy free baker. Get baking

I love to bake, and this is a great addition to my cookbook shelf! The book is very well organized and the recipes are very clearly written. I especially appreciate the b/w photos showing how to do tricky procedures and the instructions for storing and freezing each cake. Plus, the stuff is delicious! Even if you are not a kosher baker, buy this book--you won't regret it.

I am a baker, and need parve recipes. Although many of these baking recipes require alot of time, which a working mom just doesn't have. But I do like the recipes.

This book is super informative for us non dairy bakers. The recipes are easy enough to understand and do not have a bunch of tedious steps. Great ideas and I love how the book is separated by time you have to bake and your skill level.
The fact that it has Pesach recipes are a MAJOR added bonus. We all know how hard it is that time of year!
Happy Shabbot Cooking to all!!

4.0 out of 5 stars handy book, July 18, 2011
This review is from: The Kosher Baker: Over 160 Dairy-free Recipes from Traditional to Trendy (HBI Series on Jewish Women) (Hardcover)
I was very excited when I heard about the book and haven't been disappointed. All the recipes are dairy free and are very easy to follow. I like that sections are divided according to the time it takes and level of difficulty. I have made a few recipes so far from the book, the choc chips cooks are unbelievable and the tea cake is also yum. However I tried making the yeast cake in her recipe (tried 3 times) and it failed dismally.

I bought this cookie book because I always find it a challenge to make good parve desserts. I made the almond tuilles and they were incredibly good and then I made the orange cigarettes. This is the same as the almond tuilles but for adapted for Passover. Also delicious. I have many pages marked to try other yummy desserts with great confidence that they will be just as good. I would certainly recommend this cookbook for any jewish or non- jewish baker.
