3.0 out of 5 stars Cute, but smaller than expected.
I came across these when looking for some cute boxes to send my girls' lunches in for school. The price was reasonable, so I purchased this pink one along with another color. They're definitely cute, and the interior container has a plastic lid that seems to hold in semi-liquid products fairly well.

Though I looked at the dimensions before I purchased it, it...

If you are anything like me (a mostly Caucasian, lower-middle class, American woman) you have a bizarre love-hate relationship with food that often results in eating too much, feeling lethargic, and having guilt. When I say that this bento box has helped me appreciate food in ways I never have before, I mean it. It is small, yes, but when I learned to pack it with the right things, I had a good, hearty meal that left me feeling full until I got home from work and started dinner. This bento box has been an invaluable part of my lessons in nutrition and portion control, which I have found to be, like, 85% of the weight-loss battle. Some of my friends, in fact, are taking an interest in what I've started calling "the bento diet." Eat less, eat better, and feel good!

All that aside, this is a great little bento box. Very cute, sleek design. I wish the stacking section had a partition in it to keep foods from mixing, but there are ways around that. The bento does not come with a strap to hold it closed, so I crocheted a satchel to carry it in. Also, I haven't tried putting it in the dishwasher, but hand-washing it is so quick that it's not an inconvenience.

I came across these when looking for some cute boxes to send my girls' lunches in for school. The price was reasonable, so I purchased this pink one along with another color. They're definitely cute, and the interior container has a plastic lid that seems to hold in semi-liquid products fairly well.

Though I looked at the dimensions before I purchased it, it was much smaller than I had come to expect. For younger elementary school children, the box is probably just the right size for a small lunch. It's not really big enough to hold a full lunch, but works well in addition to the second box. Since the interior container rests on the bottom to make the bottom a separate space for food, you have to be much more careful about what you put in it. As another reviewer mentioned, there's no band to hold it together, and if it tilts over, the top portion will fall off and what is in the bottom will spill out. I have used a soft hair band to hold it together with fairly good results.

I did put the plastic lid for the interior container in the dishwasher, as it didn't come with any care instructions, and it had become greasy. It is narrow enough, even when attached with my washer clips, to slip loose and fall through to the bottom heater element. It did melt a bit, so be sure to hand wash the interior flexible lid. The rest of the item washed well in the upper rack, though I think long-term use of the dishwasher instead of hand-washing will result in some chipping of the finish around the edges of the top piece.

I probably wouldn't buy another, unless I wanted a cute jewelry or collection box.

5.0 out of 5 stars lovely!, March 24, 2011

I was really shocked at how small it is when I received it. That having been said, it's spacious! When packed full, there is no way I could eat it all! It's two tiered and each tier is spacious. The top tier includes a fairly secure lid. It also comes with a stretchy band (I received a red one) to hold the box closed, but since the box is kind of slick it tends to slide off. If you plan on buying this, you might want to wrap it in a cloth to keep it secure.

I love Amazon, but this is a perfect example of the downside of Amazon. The description of this bento box says that an elastic band is included to keep the bento box closed. Mine is missing. Who do I contact to obtain one? Amazon? The manufacturer? If I had bought this item at a physical store, I could just swing by to pick up the missing band...

OK, bento box review: so cute and so LITTLE! I love the concept of a compact lunch, but I think that I may need a bit more food than can fit into this little cutie. I would recommend this for children's meals or for adult snacks.

4.0 out of 5 stars Super cute but comes WITHOUT a band, January 14, 2012

Ok, so this box is pretty and all the good things anyone can say for a bento box but it comes without a band for closure. I still use it when I have foods that would otherwise stain my lighter bentos. It would have been nice to get a heads up on the fact is does not include a band for closure.

I got this adorable Bento box for my friend for her birthday, and she absolutely loved it!!! She thought it was the sweetest thing ever, really. She is very much into Japan, and Hello Kitty, and things that are cute in general, so this was most of those things combined. The color was a little bit deeper than as shown, with a nice hint of a metallic like sparkle to it. She likes to bake and cook, but doesn't have a daily incentive to do so, but this gave her a great reason to make up delicious and healthy homemade lunches to take to work with her everyday. The size is perfect for a healthy serving of just about anything that you would like to eat (cause it's not about what you eat, but how much you eat!), and the two tier's is great for separating wet and dry foods. The inner lid on the top tier is great to avoid spillage; just note that without the top tier the outter lid of the box has nothing to rest on so it'll just "eat" the bottom of the Bento box. So you are going to want to use both tiers, but then why wouldn't you. Right? The Bento also comes with a red elastic band to secure around the box to prevent any and maybe all unwanted food explosion's from happening inside of a purse, or messanger bag, or bookbag of anykind. Overall, a wonderful gift idea for any girl or boy (there are other colors and styles too) of every and any age. Even great to get for yourself ^-^

This is an adorable bento box but very small. Unless you are having something very high protein you will need a 2nd box for lunch as you can barely fit 3/4 of a cup of food in here. I use mine for nuts, seeds, and storing dried tomato bits to throw into salads but I can't imagine a full lunch going in here
