This Hakoya bento box is a great size for an adult woman (about 630 ml). It comes with a bonus pickle tray which is handy if you want to divide the contents in the upper compartment. Highly recommended for those who want to watch their portion intake. Pick this over the lower quality bento boxes available, and always hand wash! Matching chopsticks can be found at jbox.com.

Great Bento Box!,

This review is from: Kotobuki 2-Tiered Bento Box, Black/Red Cherry (Sakura) Blossom (Kitchen)
I am loving this cute little bento box. It is compact, but large enough to hold a satisfying meal. I like to fill mine with half veggies/fruit, 1/4 protein, and 1/4 carbs. It comes with a removable pickle tray that is handy for separating items in the top tier, a lid for the top tier (which fits nicely into the bottom tier), and an elastic band to hold it all together (mine was red). The amount of calories you want in a meal can be adjusted by using more carbs or protein instead of veggies. This bento box helps me make healthy, well proportioned, satisfying lunches that won't take up much space in my backpack (I used to use a collapsible tupperware, which was great once I was done with my meal, but took up a lot of space while full). I also love that I can separate the components of my meal! Using this bento box also brightens my day by allowing me to put together a visually pleasing meal - it doesn't have to be super cutesy like in the books, just organized. I spend a max of half an hour putting my bento together the night before, depending on how much of what I'm using is leftover and how much I have to prepare. The little sauce containers you can buy on Amazon are a great addition to this bento box; they fit rather nicely inside. They are really easy to fill with soy sauce, despite the small openings they have. For thicker sauces like dressing, just put some dressing into a small dish, squeeze the bottle, and use the suction it creates to fill the bottle. Easy. The only thing to watch out for with this bento is to make sure you put anything that might leak in the top tier, which has a lid. I put frozen raspberries and blueberries in the bottom tier with my salad once, and as they defrosted they leaked juice inside my backpack. The bottom tier keeps solids in just fine, but liquids will seep out. As a result of this I also wrap my bento box in a bandana as backup, and it doubles as a place mat while I am eating (in Japan they wrap their bentos with a cloth to use as a place mat & keep everything tidy). Overall, this a cute, compact, and very functional bento box. I highly recommend it. It looks small at first, but after a few uses, you'll realize that it easily holds a satisfying meal of 400-600 calories (depending on how you pack it). Remember that bentos are about using your space efficiently - wasted space means you won't be able to fit in a full meal. A sample meal for me (that I posted a picture for) is to fill the bottom tier with salad greens and golden raisins in one half, with broccoli and baby carrots on the other half, and a sauce container with salad dressing. Top tier is half filled with rice (nice and compact) and the pickle tray has bite size pieces of a tamagoyaki (Japanese style omelette) made with one egg and a slice of turkey deli meat, and a sauce container with soy sauce. Enjoy!

Seems small at first, but it actually holds quite a bit. Both compartments microwave well (three minutes max so far). Be sure to remove the soft plastic lid from the upper tier before microwaving. Smidgets (great for dips and sauces) will fit in both the top and bottom compartments. Size forces you to think about meals. Usually keep cold items like fruit, potato salad or crudite in the upper tier and heat the lower tier. Have been bringing it to work daily for a month now, and it has not absorbed odors. Saves money on takeout and drive-thru. Fun to use and much more appealing than tupperware. Color is dark brown with a textured surface. Very pretty. Makes it easy to find your lunch in the office fridge.

I don't typically store food in anything plastic, but decided to try this out for lunches. The plastic is hard, and dense. While sturdy, I'm not sure how it would take a fall on a hard surface like concrete. At first I thought it might be good for kids, but perhaps it might not take a the abuse. The design & drcoration is fun.The bento box is small, yet effecient. Plenty of room for a satisfying lunch or plenty of snacks. It would easily slip into a large bag for commuting. The bottom compartment is spacious and the second level has a sealable lid & loose sauce tray. All held together with an oversized band - which could be easy to lose. Makes lunch a bit more fun to take to work or on outings.

I received this Bento box as a gift that I picked out myself. I love that Bento boxes are compartmentalized and this one doesn't disappoint. The ability to choose between two large compartments or one large, one medium and two small compartments for your lunch is nice, too.The strap to keep the Bento box closed it thick and just tight enough to keep the box securely closed, but loose enough that you don't have to fight it to get it around the box. It doesn't seem like keeping liquids/soups/things that sit in juice in the bottom tier would be a good idea as it is definitely not entirely sealed when the second tier is placed on top. That's what the white plastic lid for the top tier is for, though. All of your juicy/wet items can go into the top tier without any worry about leakage. I think another reviewer said that this box is dishwasher safe, but I'd probably just hand wash it. I wouldn't want the Sakura blossoms to fade or chip in the dishwasher. Over all, I'm very satisfied with this box and I'm pretty excited to take it my dinner to work in it tonight.

I was out hunting for cute bento boxes for my girlfriend, and I saw that most of them come in colorful cartoony boxes, which would be kinda embarrassing to take out imo. I came across this bento box, and after seeing this nice minimalistic design, I knew this is the bento box we were looking for. To be honest, the box was kinda small, but I guess I just used to overeating all the time. This box offers portion control, which is what I should be doing ;) The top tier comes with a nice cap to cover, but I wouldn't recommend putting soups inside because it will surely leak out. Instead I recommend putting things like juicy stir fry, because it seals in small sauces like that. The bottom tier is just a hollow part where you can put rice in. It also comes with a useful red band to band the tiers together. Since this box is made of plastic, it keeps in smells from your last meal even after you wash it. Over all, it is a very good bento box, and it will surely have people eying your lunch while you eat!

I wanted to start packing bento box for lunch. Since I do not know much about bento I wasn't sure how small they were. I am sure that this is a fine sized bento box but I am not sure that I am ready for the challenge of having to pack so small. I give 5 stars because this is a beautiful box and it's not the box's fault that I did not research bento boxes more to see how small they are.

This is a bit larger than others so I can get more food stuffed in. It's also dishwasher safe, which is nice.

this is a nice box and makes a fantastic gift... bento boxes are a great way to brown-bag in style, save money, and eat healthy...this is a good product in an attractive format... big enough for healthy appetites (runs larger than most of its peers)... you will not only enjoy giving or receiving this bento box - but also using it! |
