I can easily see how this will be a filling lunch if one knows how to pack a bento efficiently.

This adorable bento set is as practical as it is pretty. The total volume is approximately 440ml, (240 for the bottom half and 200 for the top half). The bowl just sits on the rim of the domed-lid for the top half and while you can hide a few small crackers or grapes underneath, it's not secure without using a bento-elastic. For reference 240ml = 1 American Cup.

The 440ml capacity is really too small as a single comprehensive meal bento for anyone other than a very small child and so is really designed for use as an afternoon snack, side dish bento or as a pre-dinner appetizer/ tide-over bento.

Due to its cuteness that I have found excuses to use this as much as I can. I bring these (I have the Samurai version as well) on picnics and serve hummus and dips from the top lidded section, carrots and cheese from the lower section and use the hat part as a serving bowl for pita bread that I pack separately in a ziplock bag. It is also the perfect size for yogurt and granola with a few raspberries hidden underneath the hat. For winery picnics, I pack marinated olives and artichokes in the lidded section, cheese in the other and a small cracker or two underneath the hat (secured by the elastic).

Due to its size, highly recommended for compact high-energy snack foods. Not recommended for sandwiches, salads and other bulky foods.

Microwave safe without cover. Hand wash only.

I've read the reviews about this product being too small and was really apprehensive about buying it because I needed a lunchbox for school next year. After debating about it for a week, I decided to bite the bullet and buy it.

In the end, I like it a lot! It is made in japan (not in China-a 1st subtle sign that it's of good quality). When I saw that, I said "wow, that just made my purchase worth so much more!" I don't intend to offend any Chinese here (I'm chinese myself!), but China tends to produce rather low quality items. This seems very sturdy and durable, the paint looks like as if it would stay on for a long period of time. The plastic lid cover is on very securely. Overall, the design and quality of this bento is superb.

Now, the main concern, the size. When I saw it in real life, I was actually surprised at how BIG it was! No, by no means am i saying that it's a big bento. It is small. However, after reading the comments, I imagined it to be so much smaller. Therefore I was pleasantly surprised. This box is definitely enough food for lunch in accordance to the Japanese ideal of a lunch. I can easily see how this will be a filling lunch if one knows how to pack a bento efficiently. I'm excited to use this bento and I know that I will be very full with my lunch during the school year.

First I'd like to state I don't think it's right for people to give an item a lower rating because they didn't do their part as a consumer. The dimensions of the product are listed right there educate yourself!

That being said while this IS on the small side, if you know what you're doing it is large enough for an adult sized bento lunch. As a couple of people have stated they stick small snacks under the hair/bowl which is a great idea, another trick I learned was using the bento upside down. Please note that this only works when using dry/appropriate foods because the geisha isn't perfectly sealed, but since the hair is a bowl it has a bottom and will stand on its own upside down. Being able to utilize the bowl leaves the larger compartments to store more food. I find this works best on meals with rice you can pack the bowl full (keeping space for the lid that goes on the face container)all the fruits/veggies can go in the face/head and the dress portion can be filled with your dessert!

My 7 year old daughter LOVES this thing and says everyone at school is jealous (So THAT is great haha) HOWEVER, as the person making her lunch I can't figure out what to do with the hat part. It is like a soup bowl, but you can't put soup upside down, so I just shove a baggie of chips or carrots up there, and so far so good.

This is the right serving for food to pack for work.
I haven't use it a lot but when I do, everyone seems to like the design.
My food doesn't spill even if I have soup in the face part of the bento.

Thank you

All the reviews are saying the bento box is way small, but that's because Americans are used to huge a** portions! Jeez, this box is cute and can hold a perfectly balanced meal, just watch some vids on how to prepare a traditional Japanese style bento box! I bought mine to take to school and work, and I love it! I've gotten many compliments. :)

I ordered this last Friday, and it arrived today (Tuesday). So the shipping was super fast! It's the most adorable thing I've purchased from Amazon to date! It came in a plastic bag in a brown box. The condition was great without any wear or defects, and the band was more flexible than I expected (which is good because I was a bit worried that it might be too stiff and putting it on while trying to hold all the parts together might pose a challenge). The picture doesn't show it, but the top and bottom of the bento box have grooves that hold the band in place. So you don't have to worry about it slipping off. At one point, I accidentally dropped the box without the band from about 3 ft off the ground. Obviously, without the band to secure it, the sections came apart and the bowl bounced a few times. But there weren't any dents or chips, thank goodness. That goes to show the sturdiness of the build.

Regarding size, it's a bit smaller than I expected because the peanut butter can seemed pretty big in the photo. XD But the size is true to the listed measurements, and it's quite wide. So overall, it fits the same amount of food I would regularly eat on a plate at home. Since I'm a pretty slow eater and I'm not looking for a large meal, it's perfect for my one hour lunch break at work. It'll help with portion control as well. ^^ For reference, I'm a petite 20-something. So if you tend to eat more, I would definitely recommend you look for something else.

According to the paper that came with the package, the bento box is microwave safe with the inner and outer lids removed (which I'm assuming are the bowl and plastic lid). The only downfall I found was that I probably won't be able to pack any liquids unless if I take extra care to make sure it's upright at all times.
