5.0 out of 5 stars Cute & Fun

These molds seem to be made of quality plastic. They are cute. We recently watched YT videos about bento boxes and it include creating eggs into fun shapes. We couldn't wait to try it. The molds are made in Japan and the instruction is also in Japanese so expect to get the how-to somewhere else.

Make sure not to scratch the egg while removing the shell...

Laugh!!! As you, well, know by now your new egg mold(s) are either made in China, written in Japanese, or vise-versa, or all of the above and you read neither! And did you notice the Title of this Post shows `read jello comment from the 1st one-star rater'? ... so funny... OK, here are how-to-use instructions; and just in-case someone may want see this in other than...

Make sure not to scratch the egg while removing the shell. You have to put it in the mold while still hot. It is impossible to peel it while hot so the trick is too peel it under running faucet. I place the egg in upright position and close it gently. It is OK to have some part of the egg to squeeze out, bigger egg is actually better than a small one to make sure you fill every nook of the mold. Snap the latch and place the egg in the refrigerator for about ten minutes. You can also color the egg if you immerse it into water with food color on it for a few minutes. Really fun, specially if you have kids in the house.

5.0 out of 5 stars It Works!, April 6, 2010

This review is from: Kotobuki Plastic Egg Mold, Set of 2, Fish and Car (Kitchen)
Having previously squished eggs into squares before pickeling and then taking them to a potluck, how could I resist entertaining folks with fun fish? The forms are very sturdy and well-made. The instructions that come w/ the product are in Japanese, but previous experience yielded egg-cellent results: Choose medium or large eggs. Hard boil. Keep egg warm while peeling by peeling it under warm running water. Place warm egg into mold; gently compress until mold can be latched closed. Leave in mold about 5 minutes, dunking in warm water to keep the egg warm during the shaping process. Unmold and amaze! The egg will hold it shape very well. Both kids and adults think these are cool and will want to know "How did you DO that!!"

5.0 out of 5 stars Clever Way to Serve Eggs, October 28, 2010

Our kids love eating eggs in all forms, but love eating car shaped eggs the best. The concept is simple - you put a hot peeled hard boiled egg in the center of the mold, close the lid, and snap shut. You then toss the whole thing into a bowl of cold water, wait about 10 minutes, and then open it up to find a perfectly molded shaped egg. This thing is easy to use, and your kids will eat a shaped egg - it's just that cool.

We have several tips on making the perfect shaped egg:
1. Open up the mold and wet the inside surface just in case your egg decides to stick (though it shouldn't).
2. Put in a hot egg. The shape of the mold will guide you as to how to place the egg. Here the head of the fish is wider in the bottom, so the fat end of the egg goes that way.
3. If you have egg white bits that got squished out at the sides, you can clean the ragged bits up with a sharp knife. If yolk gets squished out - chop up the egg for egg salad.
4. If you want colored eggs that are also molded, you need to add the coloring or dye before molding them. Presuming you are using a liquid type of coloring method (such as dunking the eggs in water with dye in it), if you put the eggs in a water bath after molding, the moisture will cause the eggs to swell back up, losing the molding detail. So, once you have peeled your eggs, instead of dunking them in plain hot water, put them in colored hot water until they have achieved the color you want. Then mold them as per above. The seam will show white, but the form and overall color are there.

Love these egg molds...what a great way to get my children to eat hard boiled eggs!

We also like using the molds to make rice krispy treats. Spritz the inside of each side of the mold with non-stick cooking spray (or use a pastry brush and a little softened butter). Press rice krispy treat mix into each side of the mold making sure to leave a little in the middle so both sides will stick together. Gently close the mold and press firmly. Unmold a really cute rice krispy treat shape. Granted...you will not get the detail of the fish, but you do get the 3-D shape.

5.0 out of 5 stars not only just for eggs!, September 24, 2011

I love these little things! I got them to try and get my son with sensory processing disorder to eat eggs. It did not work however they are still useful! my 4 year old son wanted a "nemo rice ball" so I tried it so found that if you put sticky rice and over fill each side put your thumb in the middle and add filling like meat or tuna and press it together you get cute rice balls! My son loves them! To make the rice orange you can paint on some food coloring when you take it out i mix the food coloring a bit of left over ramen chicken seasoning in water and paint the fish orange leaving a bit white (the stripes) and the kids all go wild for these rice balls i literally can not make them fast enough they gobble them right up!

For the people that left negative comments for the directions not being in english I say....Get over it this is not rocket science! I bought this for my 3 year old son to get him to eat more eggs, and he loves them! Really easy to use just take the shell off 2 freshly boiled eggs while still warm and put in the molds, then pop into frig for 10 minutes! Cute Cute Cute! Don't worry if some white comes out of the mold you can just wip off excess when they are done in the mold. One more quick thing I found that the fish is best with the egg sideways and the car best straight up in the molds.

If you ensure that you use Extra Large eggs, these will work perfectly for you. They are a lot of fun. If you use smaller than extra large eggs, the egg won't fill the mold. If you use Jumbo, you won't be able to close it.

Have Extra Large eggs on hand when this arrives.

I have this and the bunny/bear set. I find this set harder to get a clean egg out of. When it works, it is adorable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really cute egg molds!, December 27, 2009

These egg molds actually work! The instructions are in Japanese, but what you do is hard boil eggs and put them into the molds while still hot and soak in warm water for while. At least, that was my sister's interpretation. They make a great and creative gift!
