First off, I am not going to compare this with "fresh" or block cheese: that would be, at once, disingenuous and arrogant.

This is grated Parmesan in a cannister. I use it in any number of pasta, pizza, salad, soup, sauce, (spaghetti, pizza, Mornay, e.g.) meatloaf, vegetable, and any other recipe/dish to which I want to add Parmesan. Does it work for me? Yes! Does it's $3.50 a pound cost beat paying anywhere from 3-10 times the cost (depending on the quality) for block Parmesan? It does for me. Am I able to differentiate between the taste of different qualities of Parmesan in a pizza or spaghetti sauce? Of course not: there are too many competing spices. (I also would not use Dom Pérignon to make mimosas for the same reason.)

I should think that Kraft Grated Parmesan would satisfy any humble palate and purse.

01/11/2012 UPDATE: When I wrote my review, this item cost $21.00 or $3.50 a pound; it's now $60 or $10.00 a pound. My local WalMart sells the pound canister for $5.50 so I cannot imagine why anyone would purchase this from Amazon at the current price.

What can I say? Unless you want to hand grate your own Parmesan, this is the best product out there. But I wouldn't spend more than about $8 on it (that's about the grocery store price), and then only through Amazon Prime. On grocery items in particular, Amazon Marketplace vendors wait for the Prime supplies to run out and then become the featured vendor on the product page. But their prices are typically grossly inflated. So if you want to avoid the gouging, hold out for an Amazon Prime purchase only.

Kraft Parmesan is my family's favorite. We live outside the US and do not have easy access to this product on the local market at a reasonable price. Being able to order 12 small (8oz) cannisters at a price below that of bulk size containers was great -- it makes storing and keeping the cheese fresh much easier.

I tried this on a pizza and in spaghetti. It tastes really great! The flavor of the three cheeses is so different from just plain parmasean. The price is a little high but worth it since I cannot get this where I live. If you want a change from parmasean, give this a try.

I paid $3.64 for one canister at Walmart's not long ago. So what's up with the extravagant price here on Amazon?

My favorite parmesan cheese. The price was great and the quality is too. Highly recommended. It is packaged to avoid damage during shipping. Freshness... very good. Nice aroma. I have received this product 3 times so far to this date and have no complaints. You cannot beat this price unless i am wrong. I eat alot of this parmesan and have no regrets buying another 12 pack. I use it on lots of foods. I always check the price and shipping costs before i purchase this product and buy at the best price. I put some in the freezer if they approach the freshness date. They fit in small places.

Kraft Foods has taken it upon themselves to reduce the amount of Parmesan Cheese in their plastic jars. Now instead of the contents reaching to the top, there is now roughly a 1 inch gap of open space in each jar, and as a purchaser of this product for over 40 years, I am furious !!!

Even though the new jars are marked down to $2.99, give them a few months and they will be charging the consumers for a FULL BOTTLE !!!

UPDATE

It has been well over a year since my review above and now the situation is much worse, this as the level of cheese content inside the jar is now even lower.

I am trying to understand how Amazon can charge 17 dollars for 8oz of grated cheese. Anyone who orders this needs their head examined or something. This is one of the worst screws I have seen on Amazon to date. Its about 5 in most stores and cheaper in others so you figure it out. Just PUCKERUP cause you are getting kissed. HAHA
