This could be said of all the Simon Winchester books that I have read.
For example, there are wonderful maps but no real good straight-forward diagram of Krakatoa and the surrounding communities mentioned in later pages.
As long as you can slog through the mundane parts, and read about the eruption, you will enjoy this book.
