Editorial Reviews

An absolutely fantastic 2cd digipak krautrock compilation compiled by b, krautrock - masters & echoes is split into two separate discs. 'masters' contains tracks from the likes of neu!, michael rother, la dusseldorf and faust Whilst 'echoes' has modern tracks from the likes of lcd soundsystem, the horrors, jesus & mary chain, fujiya & myagi, sterolab and more that put the wide ranging influence of this movement into contemporary context brilliantly.

Format: Audio CD
Two discs, Masters & Echoes. For the masters, you're better off with Elektronische Musik, whose title used to be prefixed with the word Deutche, it's on Soul Jazz. That sampling is bigger (two discs packed with masters), stylistically broader and overall, a more engaging listen. I like the second disc on this better than the first, but many listeners may already own or have access to the echoes, as they're newer and were better appreciated in their time. They were new to me, and welcome additions. I would start with the aforementioned collection first then move on to Rough Trade Shops Electronic vol. 1, individual albums by Can, Neu!, Faust, Kraftwerk or obscuro electronic comps like the Minimal Wave Tapes or Cold Wave vol. 1. There is much to explore.
