Great for Beginners,

As an experienced martial artist, I found this tape to be quite helpful explaining basic self-defense techniques to the beginning student. Krav Maga relies on teaching people instinctual responses to real life dangers. An excellent video for anyone interested in getting started in the martial arts.

Shockingly not as "realistic" as you'd expect,

Most of the techniques presented are derived from Muay Thai and Western boxing, which I would hesitate to teach to someone with zero martial arts background who wants to learn some basic self-defense FAST. The most obvious blunder is all the closed-fist boxing punches, which trained boxers have been known to hurt themselves with on the street! Duh...ever heard of open palm strikes, guys? One alleged "combat" sequence even shows the defender using a roundhouse kick to the HEAD...absolute suicide unless you are maybe a world champion Muay Thai fighter! Anybody with half a brain or even five minutes of street experience knows that you should NEVER kick above the waist in a real fight...a high kick takes twice as long to get there which leaves you open to your kicking leg being grabbed, plus you are a lot more off-balance as compared to say a low roundhouse to the thighs which is among the most street-effective weapons in the Muay Thai arsenal. This is why a lot of sport-TaeKwonDo guys get creamed on the street if they run into anyone with an ounce of realistic fighting ability: their training is centered around mid- and high kicks that might look pretty in the dojo but are a complete joke in the real world. The main saving grace of this tape are the grappling defenses: how to get out of a bearhug, clothing grabs, etc. Very basic, very simple, but mostly likely quite effective against the average untrained drunk or blowhard in the average bar.

I just finished watching this excellent video. As a Flight Attendant for a major airline I now have to defend myself at work. This video gives you the basics. It is easy to understand and gets your adrenaline going. I am now a fan of Krav Maga.

Krav Maga Basic Combatives - Combative Techniques for Self Defense & Fighting is a very good video for learning the basics in punching, kicking, and defending against punches. To me this video was less about self defense than about being able to handle yourself in a fight. That is not a small matter because utilizing the offensive punches, blocks against punches, elbow strikes, and kicks in this video, one is more likely to be able to survive an encounter against someone that means you harm. The only reason I did not give this video 5 stars is because defense against kicks is not covered here. In my opinion the video would have been complete if protecting against kicks were covered. Well made, excellent instruction, I encourage anyone who is beginning to learn self defense or even boxing/kickboxing to buy this video.
