Editorial Reviews

Krav Maga is the official self defense system of the Israeli Army and U.S. law enforcement agencies.

Knife attacks are lightning fast and brutal, and with the advent of tougher sentencing laws for gun-related crimes, they are increasingly common. Krav Maga techniques show you how to respond to attacks delivered from a distance and from close range. Basic methods of holding the knife, and the responses to these knifeholds are described and dealt with. Each exercise includes a defense, counterattack and, when possible, a disarming technique.

The video shows you the techniques in dramatized true-to-life situations. To easily master the exercises you are then taken into the training studio to examine the techniques as they are explained and analyzed by Krav Maga's highest level instructors: U.S. Chief Instructor Darren Levine and International Krav Maga Federation Head Instructor Eyal Yanilov.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not very real, January 23, 2003
This review is from: Krav Maga: On The Edge - Defending Against Common Knife Attacks [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I bought this tape based on the fact the Krav Maga is a very real and powerful self defence martial arts. As I watched this I kept telling myself this has to be a cut down version of the real Krav Maga. Most of the blocks you see has you bent over with your knees straight. In this position you are way off balance or can be taken off balance easly. Plus the punch they show that goes with these blocks can not have any power to do more than [irritate] the attacker ... If you watch the little re-enactments you can see where the defening guy would be lays is a pool of blood if they were using a real knife and not a fake, because you can see where the fake knife bends as it goes it touches his body were a real knife would have cut or stab into the body.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Real Krav, March 24, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Krav Maga: On The Edge - Defending Against Common Knife Attacks [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Like said in a previous review don't let a video be your entire training tool, go and enroll in a krav class and you'll understand more about it. I have been doing krav for a little more than a year now and while we have discussed different knife and gun defenses we were advised strongly not to be a hero and try them. Give the person what they want and stay safe! You may know the moves but its all a matter of speed and excuting it properly! I know when we were using the rubber knives I felt my arms get hit many times. Basically do what you have to do to stay save and if you are serious about learning knife defenses sign up for a krav class and advance through your level of training. I would use the defenses if it came down to it but I would still rather not get cut up over the few dollars in my pocket.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is an advanced tape, October 9, 2002

This review is from: Krav Maga: On The Edge - Defending Against Common Knife Attacks [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I am writing this review in response to a previous review, although I have not viewed the tapes. My 5 star rating is based on what I know of Krav Maga and its practicality in a real-world situation, and a fundamental trust in the effectiveness of the techniques when applied properly by a trained fighter.

I am a level 1 Krav Maga student in Virginia Beach, VA.

Krav Maga knife defense techniques represented on this tape are used in the advanced stages (level 3 and onward is my understanding) of Krav Maga training, and probably shouldn't be attempted by beginners. Don't rely on videos as your primary training. Find a Krav Maga studio, enroll, and learn the basics first. It's worth the time and effort.
