Promising, but going back!,

After reading an online review, I was excited about getting this. I have a Stanley Oddjob which I carry in shop apron and thought this might be an improvement. It is promising, with one major flaw. You must completely remove the brass knob to change positions. It is a royal pain. The point is convenience and convenience is the ability to use the functions interchangeably, flowing from on task to another. Doing that requires you to remove and reconfigure the tool between tasks. It is going back. I will just never use it. My combination square, although not a shop apron item, can easily perform a 90, 45 and depth gauge/scribe without reconfiguration. Kreg, go back to the drawing board.

I have been using the Kreg pocket hole jig Kreg K4MS Jig Master System and Kreg KMS7102 Table Saw Precision Miter Gauge System for awhile and have been very pleased with both. For that reason I was open to their other products. I ordered the Kreg KMA2900 Multi-Mark tool anticipating another fine product. I was disappointed. Whereas the product works as advertised for off-set marking, as a "square" it falls short of a dependable marking tool. The area that locks the moveable metal piece at a 90-degree angle is just too loose! If you need a dependable 90-degree mark, this tool is NOT it!

Nice for quick measurements and fine adjustments on the fly, but $18. There was a considerable amount of thought put in to this product and the quality on everything but the rule is good. For this money they should give you 2 rules (1 spare) and 2 thumbscrews (1 spare).

Keep finding new ways to use it,

I also bought mine at Lowes. I bought it to put up some trim in my house which nobody has commented on using it as a trim gage, worked great for the 3/16 reveal. I just marked my corners which allowed for easy measuring, then used the offset on the edge to position the trim as I nailed it. I also used the 45° to mark the trim to cut of the miter saw. After finishing the job I keep finding ways to transfer measurements and leveling wall hangings for my wife. It would be nice if the knob didn't have to come out all of the way, but all in all great quality, great tool.

Nice convenient tool. Easier to line up mark along flush edge. To change between 45 degrees, straight, or square measurements you unscrew the tightening knob, change positions, and line it up on the mark.

My order for a Kreg Multi-Mark arrived in good condition. Four days early! It is not exactly what I hoped it would be, however it is well worth the price and I am keeping it. Thanks, Amazon. Lewis

The quality of the product is great. I'm still learning what the benefits of this are. I wish it had both left and right 45 degree angles and perhaps 30 and 60. Also, I would like to go from one setting to another without having to take the screw out. It could be more useful later as I get more experience.

I did not purchase this from Amazon but instead bought it at Lowe's. This tool is fantastic. I use it for 99% of my wood projects. It's very accurate and well built. I suggest this to anyone in the trades.

I like this little jig. It makes rock-solid measurements, keeps perfect 45 and 90 degree angles, and makes a decent depth gauge. It is very good for its intended purpose -- trim work or light cabinetry. If that's your goal, this is a great tool for you; however, you should not assume it can substitute for your carpentry square. It's just not big enough. For example, the tool is not long enough to draw a 45 degree line on a 2x6, much less a 2x8. I wish the metal piece were long enough for carpentry work, not just trim and face frame pieces. Also, when you use the tool at 45 degrees, it's not possible to extend it enough to keep a corner from poking out the other side. This means you can't use it to align a saw blade to 45 degrees, because the tool won't sit flush on the saw table top. I'm thinking about chamfering the metal's corner to allow this. It will reduce the length I can measure, but I have a tape measure for that. Finally, it has a nice feature for setting 3/16" reveals (for door trim). I would have liked other reveals to be easily set as well. It seems like it would have been easy to rabbet all four sides with different depths: 1/8", 3/16", 1/4", and 3/8". Even though it doesn't do everything I'd like, it's still a nice, easy to use tool. I'll use it over my other squares as long as it's big enough for the job at hand. |
